The document summarizes a meeting of teachers from different European countries participating in a Comenius project on natural sciences. It outlines the schedule, including hosting future meetings in Poland and Luxembourg. It discusses disseminating project results through a website, school websites, press, and other channels. The group planned lessons on sustainable development and student presentations of examples from each country. They also set up procedures for managing website comments and a logo contest.

Description of the activities:
On 17th of November, the participants met informally for dinner in a typical Italian tavern.
The official meeting started at 9.00 a.m. on Friday, 18th November in the conference room of the
Hotel President in Prato where the participants were hosted.
During the morning session, the following subjects were treated:
2. - Brief presentation of the Polish educational system and the Polish partner school by the Polish
delegation which was absent from the previous meeting;
-The date for the 3rd teachers meeting in Poland was fixed for Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd
September 2012 (arrival on Thursday evening, departure on Sunday);
- Ideas for the dissemination of the project:
After some introductory explanations given by the coordinator Natalia Mauro Nicolino, we started
by identifying potential target groups for the dissemination of the project and came to the
conclusion that we should try to reach teachers, teachers in training and students of the
participating schools, teachers and teachers in training of other schools, other potential Comenius
participants as well as the ministry of education.
We proceeded to find the channels which would allow us to reach these target groups and came up
with the following list:
-internet website: the Polish presented the website which they had already well prepared,
and we discussed some alterations concerning the structure of the website. All information
to be published on that site (e.g. lesson plans and material used during the lessons,
examples of the students results...) should be mailed to the Polish coordinator, Edyta
Kulawiak Roman to the following address: kedith@op.pl;
- school websites: every school should publish a brief presentation of the project with a link
to the website, a list of participating classes, the timetable of students meetings, the reports
of the meetings;
- press: every time a meeting is held, the press should be informed by a press release.
Natalia Mauro Nicolino offered to put the information on how to write a good press release
on the website;
- The Luxemburgish teachers mentioned that in their country, it might be interesting to
inform the national commissions elaborating the programs in English and in Science as well
as their ‘myschool’ platform, which is accessible to all teachers and students;
- the Spanish delegation proposed using a website students use for their homework;
N.B.: Don’t forget to ask for the parents authorization if you want to publish pictures of the
students!
- Implementation of the Social Sciences subject
We decided to drop the term ‘social sciences’ and replace it with ‘sustainable development ‘.
The sustainable development lessons are scheduled to:
-give a definition of the term and to show how it can be applied on different levels
(economical, environmental, social,…)
- to treat one or more examples that the teacher and the class may choose freely. One
example from each country is to be presented (presentation time between 5 and 15
minutes) by a group of students at the meeting in Luxemburg.
3. - the evaluation should follow the same model we created for biology and physics during our
meeting in Kungalv;
- Preparation for the meeting in Luxemburg:
In order to prepare the meeting in Luxemburg, every country should send in for Friday 16th of
December:
- the number, age and gender of the students going to Luxemburg;
- the number of teachers going and whether they would prefer private hosting or a hotel.
We decided that in Luxemburg we would be organizing workshops presented by the students of
each country to their fellow students. In order to organize this, every country has to decide on which
subject they want to present in physics and biology, with the exception of Italy, which will not have
finished the physics lessons by April 2012. The deadline for submitting the subject is Friday 16th of
December. As for the subject for the sustainable development presentation, we are confident that
there are not going to be any redundant presentations.
When your workshop is standing, you should send in time and material requirements to Luxemburg
(julie.santer@epf.lu) before the 26th March 2012.
The meeting then adjourned for a quick lunch and a visit of the Cicognini Rodari school. During the
afternoon, we had a somewhat technical discussion on how to make it possible to place comments
on the website without the use of a password, with the following results:
- Comments on the website:
all comments go someplace on the Internet that our Polish colleagues are able to find. All teachers
have access to this ‘storeroom’ and have to take turns approving or rejecting the comment. For the
comment to be accepted it has to justify all of the following criteria:
- be written in English
- observe the rules of netiquette (be polite)
- pertinent
- signed with a chosen name or nickname
The following list shows who’s responsible for evaluation the validity of the comments.

On Saturday morning, we went on a guided tour to Florence and the conference continued after
lunch in the conference room. The points treated in the afternoon were:
- Logo
We decided that we would ask our students to make the logo, and that every country should send a
maximum of three logos to the website (that is to say Edyta) by the 16th of December. These logos
should : - contain the name of the project
- not contain any pictures or drawings protected by copyright (e.g. the European
stars, the Comenius symbol)
- not contain dates
- be understandable even when compressed (on a letterhead...)
- be in jpeg format, minimum 640x 480 pixels, maximum 1024 x 728 pixels
The logos from each country will be published on the website and the students may then vote for
their preferred logo, with the restriction that they can’t vote twice for the same country. The contest
ends on Friday, January 13th.
N.B. Students have to be informed that by submitting their logo, they allow this Comenius group to
use it on the website or on other publications
- Facebook account:
The coordinator, Natalia Mauro Nicolino opened a Facebook group called Natural sciences, natural
English, Comenius. All participants should ask to become friends of this group and invite their
students to do likewise.
