The emerging Cloud infrastructures offer new ways to develop dynamic services. Eclipse can contribute to these new services today by combining results from various projects. This talk will demonstrate how to set up a simple search application in the Cloud with the help of the following eclipseRT and Eclipse Technology projects: * g-Eclipse will be used to manage and configure the virtual Cloud resources based on its general Cloud model. * p2 will be used to deploy the search application. * SMILA (SeMantic Information Logistics Architecture) is an extensible framework for building search applications for data like office documents, emails, images, audio & video files, blogs etc. One of the features of SMILA is the parallelization of processes/workflows, so the natural deployment environment of SMILA is similar to the distributed environment of the Cloud. * RAP will be used to create a simple search-UI for the application. This talk demonstrates existing goodies from Eclipse projects which can help to build Cloud applications independent from underlying infrastructures. It will show the potential power of Eclipse technology on the Cloud.

Session Presented @IndicThreads Cloud Computing Conference, Pune, India ( http://u10.indicthreads.com ) ------------ The Java EE 6 platform is an extreme makeover from the previous versions. It breaks the “one size fits all” approach with Profiles and improves on the Java EE 5 developer productivity features. It enables extensibility by embracing open source libraries and frameworks such that they are treated as first class citizens of the platform. NetBeans, Eclipse, and IntelliJ provide extensive tooling for Java EE 6. But how can you leverage all of this on a cloud ? GlassFish v3, the Reference Implementation of Java EE 6, can easily run on multiple cloud infrastructures. This talk will provide a brief introduction to Java EE 6 and GlassFish v3. The attendees will learn how to create a simple Java EE 6 sample application and deploy them on GlassFish v3 running locally. Then it will deploy that sample using Amazon, RightScale, Joyent, and Elastra cloud infrastructures. It will also show how servers are dynamically provisioned in some environments to meet the demand. The talk will also explain the advantages of each approach enabling you to choose the optimal strategy for your environment. Takeaways from the session The attendees will be able to learn how to deploy a Java EE 6 application in different cloud environments. They’ll also learn about the pros/cons of these infrastructures.

Managing cloud infrastructure across many organisations can be complex. One area of complexity is in the management of identities. These include identities of people who build and provision cloud infrastructure, as well as the end consumers of the services running on it. Eduserv is building a cloud for the UK education community. This session shows how we are tackling the problems of identity provision to cloud infrastructure using federated login. Our approach uses traditional SAML login to a web-based console to manage infrastructure, as well as Moonshot-enabled login to infrastructure. This means we can achieve end-to-end management of cloud infrastructure from provisioning right through to access to services, using solely federated credentials. The result is the ability to rapidly scale infrastructure, while knowing that the right people can seamlessly gain access to it. The session discusses our experiences of building and managing clouds using VMWare vCloud, as well as how we are using Mooshot now, and its potential for the future.

Git is a version control system. We can look at it from that high level. Git is a content tracking system. Some teachers advise us to look at it from that lowered elevation. But I will take you to the very bottom. The floor. The code. The algorithms. The directed acyclic graph of hashed bit sequences made efficient through LZW compression and deferred garbage collection determined by node reachability via hash relationships. “But why?”, you may ask. “Why go this deep?”" Git is a tool that works so well for so many. It mystically corrects anticipated `merge` conflicts. It’s “where did code come from” results from `blame` are impressive. The ability to re-write history through `rebase` is awesome. The globally unique identifier nature of a hash-produced ref is revolutionary. Uber-geeks are magic-slayers. We want and need to know precisely how things work. Like a hard 50 push-up workout, this study will make working with Git at the daily developer level a fraction of the effort — like a mere ten push-ups.
