This basically means
survival of the fittest.
This was used in the
industry of the United
States as the stronger
industries would take over
the weaker ones.
AMERICANIZATION MOVEMENT



This was when someone who
was an immigrant to America
took on American values.
People from different countries
started to follow american
fashion trends, personalities, etc.
SOCIAL GOSPEL

This is the practice of
christianity as a calling
and a social reform.
It was the social reform of
christianity during the
revolution.
BILLY SUNDAY

He was a very popular
American baseball player
during the 1880’s.
He was the most celebrated
and influential christian
athlete during the early
20th century.
16TH AMENDMENT

It gave congress the ability
to levy income taxes.
This was originally a tax
used to help pay for the
civil war in the late
1800’s.
POPULISM (UNITED STATES)

It is a political doctrine that
supports the rights and power
of the common people in
their struggle with the
privileged elite.
There was this group called
the populist party and they
were a group who were
basically against the upper
class elites of society.
CHILDREN’S BUREAU

This was a federal agency put
together by the department of
health and human services.
It was used to prevent child
abuse, provide foster care, and
adoption.
JOHN MUIR


He was a scottish born
American naturalist and author.
He was the man who helped
preserve the Yosemite Valley,
Sequoia National Park.
DWIGHT L. MOODY


He was an American Evangelist.
He was the man that opened the
Moody church, Moody bible
institute, and Moody Publishers.
THE PANAMA CANAL

It is a canal that connects the
Atlantic Ocean with the
Pacific Ocean.
This made it way easier to
transport goods from the
Pacific of the U.S. to the
Atlantic.
THE ERIE CANAL
This is a waterway that runs
363 miles from Albany, New
York to Buffalo, New York
in Lake Erie connecting the
Atlantic Ocean to the Great
Lakes.
It was the first
transportation system
between the Eastern sea
board and the great lakes.
MUCKRAKERS

This term refers to reform
minded journalists in early
American history.
They started investigative
journalism reporting all the
way into the first world war.
IDA TARBELL


She was an American teacher,
author, and Journalists.
She was known as one of the
leading Muckrakers of the
progressive era.
