Four Perfect Pebbles By: Lisa Perl and Marion Blumenthal Lazan A Holocaust Story
Chapter 1 Titled - Four Perfect Pebbles Hitler had people in special Camps, with electric wire around the camps. These camp were called Concentration Camps.
Chapter 2 Titled – Small Town In Germany Hitler didn’t like Communists, Jews, and Gypsies and he is against Slavic people such as crippled, deformed and mentally ill. Hitler also went to jail in 1923 because a crazed attempt to overthrow the government, people thought he was a crackpot. The Jews of Germany were seen as a threat by the Nazis. Hitler set a law that Jews and non-Jews couldn’t be married. I found out that Marion’s Great Grandma passed away when she was 72, and her Great Grandpa passed away when he was 83 from a heart attack. In the same year of 1738 there where 27,000 immigrants in the U.S.A. from Germany and Austria.
Chapter 3 Titled – Get Dressed And Come With Us There was a law posted through that all females middle names were changed to be Sarah and the boys middle names where changed to Israel. There were 18,000 polish- born Jews that were torn from their homes and businesses. The police took all the dads away from their family. If the officers thought that something was worth a lot of money they would throw that thing out the window. They would mostly throw out pianos and living room things. Walter was in the camp and wrote his family a message, one sentence on the letter was “ Don’t send a note back because there is no body that would give the note or letter to me”.
Chapter 4 Titled – Escape To Holland 20,000 German Jews had already went to the Netherlands in the 1930’s. Marion and her family got moved to “ Small Houses” in which they had a kitchen, that had a sink and a hot plate with only one burner. They also had a bathroom with a toilet and a sink. There was a big bed for her parents and a room behind the parents that the 2 children went to bed in, which had a double-decker bunk bed. The parents had jobs, the mom had a job for working at the kitchen for a long time, and the dad worked polishing shoes. Most of them where killed in a gas chamber, and then put to an oven to be burned. 4,756 people where killed in 24 hours. Gas Chamber Crematorium Oven
Chapter 5 Titled – The Greatest Disappointment     They were waiting for their names to be called, so they can move out of the places they are at. The officer reads the list in alphabetically order, and than he passes the B and that is the letter that their last name starts with. He goes right on reading the list, and than her dad Walter goes to the officer, and asks him if he missed their name. His answer is "NO". Than the officer got mad at Walter, and hit him. He called him a Sau Jude which means “Pig Jew”. Most of the people that left, didn't make it. One day, one of the youngest solders gave her brother an apple. Marion never knew what a Gas chamber was so an older lady told her ”You go to shower, and you are told to strip in front of the male soldiers. But it was actually a gas Chamber and kills them in like 15 minutes. Then they would pull the teeth of the dead to get gold, then they are put into an oven”.
Chapter 6 Titled – On The Death Train   They are going somewhere and Walter is carrying Marion. Albert is carrying a lot of their belongings, and her mom is carrying a little bit of their stuff. They are going on a train to somewhere else. They are on the train with 50 other people, and are cuddled up with each other, There is a lot of room on the train. The train's name is The Death Train, because Dysentery is a killer disease, and it kills a lot of people on the train. Some of the people that get it can hardly crawl off of the cars they are in. They are at a place that is safe from the Nazis, and the date is April 23,1945. That is her number when she was in the Holocaust.
Chapter 7 Titled – Freedom and Sorrow They were not too sure if they should get off of the train. When they did, they went to the town where the officers told them to go. When they got to the town, they entered the first House. Marion smelled something and she went to the attic and there was ham and sausages hanging from the roof. So she cut a ham off and took it down stairs with her. Marion weighed 35 pounds and her mom weighed 75 pounds. They had to eat a little more each time they had some food, some of the people who ate a lot died. They had to shave their heads because of lice that where going through. They heard from the German soldiers, that the war was almost done. Her dad has been planning for a long time to take the family to America. Her dad passed away, Albert had to dig a hole and laid his dad in the hole.
Chapter 8 Titled – Holland Again When she was 4 she got her glasses, and that is why she looks cross-eyed in the one picture. She had gum for a lot of weeks, she never knew how long she has had it. Marion went for an operation and if you want to know why, you have to read to Book to find out. I will give you a hint, it is something on the top half of your body. Her family which is mama, Albert and her got to see the Statue of Liberty. They got to see the Statue at 5 am in the morning. They are now in the USA, they got there on April 23, 1948.
Chapter 9 Titled – America, at Last They got to Hoboken, New Jersey. The family met her dad’s sister Clara, her husband, and daughter there. In September Marion went to a school, if you want to know the rest of the book you can read it.
