• Direct quotation:
• 'It would be foolhardy to think that all learning in organizations is
planned' (French, 2005, p.123)
• Paraphrasing
• In a newly published survey Hill and Reid (2010, p.93) argue that...
5. Bear in mind
• If you are referencing a quote within a book in the in text reference both
are referenced but in the full reference only the book in hand is referenced
• Example:: .. (Smith, 1990, cited in Buckroyd, 1996, p.27)
• If you are referencing a chapter in an edited book only the author of the
chapter is reference in the in text quotation
• Example: (MacDonald, 1997, p.354)*
