CAMPUS SERVICE LEARNING - AFFIRMATION OF PARTICIPATION
This letter verifies that Meghan Charest participated in the following Conestoga College
Campus Service Learning initiative Celebrating Cultural Diversity Week in November
2015.
The student was involved in the exercise as part of a joint initiative between the World
Cultures Course and the Student Life Department of the College.
Campus Service Learning is an integrative educational approach where students achieve
selected learning outcomes in a specific course through intentional experiential learning
activities within the College community, thereby contributing to the overall student
experience and/or campus culture. CSL not only provides students with a learning
vehicle, it also offers them the opportunity to experience civic responsibility firsthand
while gaining a greater sense of connection to their College community.
Roles and responsibilities of participants who lead Campus Service Learning initiatives
may include but not be limited to the following:
• Organizing and facilitating an interactive booth display to educate the College
population about cultural diversity and an aspect of culture/multiculturalism
(‘the subject”),
• Engaging students on campus in an activity or learning opportunity related to
the subject,
• Creating an energetic atmosphere on campus,
• Working with other classmates to develop and deliver the above,
• Encourage reflective learning practices through classroom discussions,
• Writing a reflective assignment regarding the learning that took place.
Campus Service Learning activities are designed to foster teamwork, promote oral
communication and interpersonal skills and strengthen time management and
presentation skills. In the process of delivery, students make a positive difference to
their campus culture.
We greatly value Meghan’s contribution to helping us celebrate cultural diversity at
Conestoga!
