IDH2 but not IDH1 expression is modulated in breast cancer

1. mRNA expression of IDH2 but not IDH1 is modulated in breast cancer Recent studies have linked the gain-of-function protein mutations* in isocitratedehydrogenase (IDH) 1 and 2 to the pathogenesis of various hematological malignancies and brain cancer 1, 2, 3. No published data about these two enzymes being associated with breast cancer exist in the current literature. I meta-analyzed four independent whole genome breast cancer gene-expression datasets to determine if the expression of IDH1 and IDH2 can be interpreted as modulated in breast cancer. As demonstrated in Table 1 on the right side of this presentation, the expression of IDH2 but not IDH1 is consistently elevated in estrogen receptor negative breast cancer. Each of the four independent whole genome breast cancer gene-expression datasets, produced by three independent technologies, revealed that the mRNA of IDH2 but not IDH1 is significantly elevated in breast cancer samples of estrogen receptor (ESR)-negative breast cancer as compared to the ESR-positive breast cancer.
