NASA provides many opportunities for students and classrooms to explore. Many of these programs are free to educators and classrooms. This presentation will provide a sampling of a few NASA resources.
NASA CORE provides educators with the opportunity to order Posters, Lithographs, Videos, DVDs and publications. Many of these are offered at little or no cost. Some of the videos are available only as rentals, the rest for purcahse. CORE includes a large selection of Unit Plans, Lesson Plans, and Resources. From the CORE website, you can search the catalog.
Many NASA facilities have an Educator Resource Center. At these centers, Educators can collaborate with NASA educational staff, as well as specialists, scientists. ERC staff will assist educators in locating and using materials, provide demonstrations, offer training and development sessions, and provide networking opportunities.
NASA Explorer schools uses real NASA Science to help students learn Science Content. Lessons are designed to inspire and engage students. Using authentic NASA missions and research to unravel the mystery of space and understanding of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. NASA provides lessons, resources, materials, training and guidance.
NASA DLN coordinates video conferencing and webcasts for students and teachers. Classrooms can view recorded lesson videos, participate in webconferences, free interactive lessons and interact with NASA scientists and engineers. DLN is offered through all 10 NASA Field Centers.
In this NASA virtual design program, students teams collaborate to solve real-world problems related to the James Webb Space Telescope and Robonaut 2. A simulated 3-D Activeworlds interface provides student teams with secure space for avatars, collaboration, and file storage. The program includes mentoring, software, and online training.
