•Born in Salinas, California.

3. •John’s father was John Steinbeck Sr.
•His mother was Olive Hamilton Steinbeck.
•John had three sisters, Esther, Elizabeth and Mary.
• He married three times to Carol Henning,
Gwyndolyn Conger and Elaine Anderson Scott.
•John had two sons with his second wife. Their
names are Thomas and John.

4. •John graduated from Salinas High
School in 1919.
•He attended Stanford University
from 1919 to 1925.
•John left Stanford in 1925 for New
York to further his writing courier.

6. • John earned the Nobel Prize in Literature
on December 10th, 1962.
•John was awarded the Nobel Prize “…for
his realistic and imaginative writings,
combining as they do sympathetic humor
and keen social perception.”
•In 2005,his medal was donated to Stanford
University Library.

7. •John died on December 20th, 1968 because of
heart failure.
•His ashes were buried in the Garden of
Memories Cemetery.
