Human relations is the study of how beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors can cause relationship problems personally and at work. It developed from the Industrial Revolution, Taylor's scientific management, and Mayo's Hawthorne Studies. While information technology reduces human contact, managing relationships with oneself, others, and groups remains challenging. Behavior at work is influenced by organizational culture, management, work groups, jobs, personal characteristics, and family. Major themes in human relations include communication, self-awareness, motivation, trust, conflict resolution, and more. Studying human relations can benefit interpersonal skills.
