This was a short prayer service created for the school commemorating Cornelia Connelly, foundress of the Society of the Holy Child, during the Bicentennial Year. It was led by Grade 8.
2. † Sign of the Cross Sung refrain: Call upon the Lord and he will hear you. (All repeat) Leader: Today we gather to give thanks and praise for the gift of Cornelia Connelly’s life for the good of the Church and for the education of children. All: May we try each and every day to follow, as she did, the example of Jesus.

4. Leader : Cornelia Connelly, servant of God, you were given the grace to listen to God in prayer. You learned, even as a young person, to trust in God’s care for you and for those you loved. All: Help us, dear Lord, to place all of our trust in you.

6. Leader: We all have gifts and talents, and we also have parts of ourselves that need “work.” Cornelia teaches us that if we try day by day… to desire what God desires, and to love what God loves, God will indeed bless us and do great things for us. All: We are God’s “Work of Art.” Help us, Lord, to grow and become all you desire us to be.

We all love birthday’s! And today is a special one for all Holy Child Schools. Today we celebrate the 200 th anniversary of Cornelia Connelly’s’ birth!
Can you imagine what Cornelia prayed for when she was growing up in Philadelphia? She probably prayed, “Dear God, please take care of my family.” “Please take care of my parents, now with you in heaven, and please take care of me.”
As a young woman Cornelia was described as being attractive, intelligent, and well-educated. She had a lively personality; She strong-minded, sometimes hot-tempered, and sometimes a bit untidy! It sounds like she had a lot in common with many of us! When she was growing up, she probably prayed each day for God’s help, And shared with God just how she was feeling! “Dear God, help me to do my best.” “Dear God, help me to control my temper.” Dear God, help me to get organized!”
