Latitude and longitude are used to describe the absolute location of a place on Earth. Latitude lines run parallel to the equator and measure distances north and south, while longitude lines run perpendicular to latitude and measure distances east and west. Together, latitude and longitude provide a precise coordinate system to identify any location on the planet, such as Galveston, Texas, which is at 29°16' North latitude and 94°49' West longitude.

Relative Location of a city or destination on the planet is its
relationship to another place or nearby landmarks.
As an example, our school is located in in the Gulf of Mexico,
about 48 miles southeast of Houston. That's our relative
location.
Absolute Location is the definitive location of a place using a
recognized coordinate system. In terms of latitude and
longitude, our office in Galveston, Texas, is 29 16' North,
94 49' West, marked with the red dot on the map above
