9. Cathy was born in Dallas where she lived until she
graduated high school. As a little girl she was fascinated
with the photographs that her Grandmother had taken of
her travels. When Cathy was 8 years old she received her
first camera, a Kodak Brownie and that was the beginning.
She attended the University of New Mexico in
Albuquerque, majoring in Fine Arts/Photography. She
studied the History of Photography under Beaumont
Newhall spending many hours in the darkroom. Her
classroom was a camera, where the world outside was
viewed upside down like a continuous movie. Everything
was black and white, chemistry and magic. Ansel Adams,
Dorothea Lange, Richard Avedon were her main influences.
She moved to the Dripping Springs area 16 years ago, and
feels lucky to be in the Texas Hill Country. She and her
husband are avid travelers. She loves animals, nature and
the outdoors, which she explores with the camera and lens.
Photography is her passion, and she loves capturing rare
moments in time.
Cathy is a member of the Photographers of Dripping
Springs.

12. DorRae began as most, a lover of photography as art, when
she was young. She then became sidetracked by life,
college and raising a family.
In 2002, she began her “formal” study with Photography at
Austin Community College with a focus in the Black and
White Darkroom.
DorRae opened her home studio in 2005. She has spent the
last several years as a member of PPA (Professional
Photographers of America), TPPA (Texas Professional
Photographers Association) and APPA. She continues to
study and learn by attending workshops and classes. She is
co-founder of the Photographers of Dripping Springs.
While most of her “work” is in portraits and weddings, her
personal work has a much broader range -- from food,
landscape, fine art and documentary. Her goal is to tell and
preserve the beautiful and real stories that are all around

snapshots of his dog, Smokey, and the public library across
the street. Over the years, he has transitioned from a

brought many amazing innovations.
There has always been one constant for John, and that is
the satisfaction of capturing the essence of his subject in a
way that is both artistically creative and pleasing to his
viewers.

He and his wife, Sue, reside in Dripping Springs, TX under

49. While vacationing as a little boy, Tom remembers his
mother taking pictures with a box camera. The film was
mailed and a week or so later the pictures would be
returned for his family to enjoy. It was fascinating to him
that the camera was capturing events in time forever. It
was at this time Tom began his relationship with the
camera.
All during his education, military and career he never lost
interest in photography. Tom taught himself how to
develop and print black and white film. The finished prints
were something that gave him great personal satisfaction.
Now retired Tom can finally pursue his passion with
photography. After completing photo technology classes at
ACC, he is currently a student of photography participating
in Texas State University's Fine Arts undergraduate
program.
The days of the box camera are long gone; but Tom’s
interest in photography is still very much alive and growing.
Tom is a member of the Photographers of Dripping Springs.
He resides in Dripping Springs with his wife.
