• 3000 BC – Abacus
• 1600’s – Calculators were used in classrooms.
• 1800’s – Punched Card devices were invented.
• 1940’s – Joesph Jacquard created a
programmable machine that used
punched cards.

4. 1940’s through 1956
• 1943 – Vacuum tubes were used and
punch cards stored information.
• 1950’s – Mainframe Computers were used to
train pilots.
1956- IBM RAMAC Computer – Second
Generation used transistors, stored up to
32K of information, and used FORTRAN
and COBOL as computer language.

6. 1960’s through 1990’s
• 1960- Minicomputers were introduced.
• 1970 - Microsomputers
1971- Intel invented microprocessor chips.
• 1980 – IBM first PC. Apple II, Commodore PET,
Radio Shack TRS 80 computers were
adopted by schools.
1990’s – Tim Berners-Lee developed HTML and
World Wide Web (WWW).

• 1990 - 1990’s- Marc Andreessen developed
Mosaic software to read HTML. He also founded
Netscape.
1990’s – Creation of the Internet.

with it. Teachers will need to keep up with the
changing technology to meet the needs of the
learners.

The other group of students may not even be
in the same school, state, or country. Technology
allows students to explore the world from one
location.
