Again Claims based data. Any MH diagnosis combined with any SUD diagnosis indicate co-occurring. Need not be from the same claim. Overall, about 12% of all members in treatment have co-occurring diagnoses. There is little gender-based variance. There was very little variation among the prevalence of mental health diagnoses. Overall, about 90% of all HCAL members in treatment had a mental health diagnosis. Only in the age breakout was much variation seen. For children and senior members in excess of 95% of members had mental health diagnoses. For adults ages 20-34, only 82% had mental health diagnoses. In each of the other sub groups (gender, race ethnicity) the prevalence of mental health diagnoses was comparable to the overall rate. The rates of substance use disorder diagnoses however varied markedly among some of the sub groups.
In all groups, the majority of substance used disorders are seen within the context of co-occurring diagnoses.
