1. LANGUAGE CAMP PROGRAMME REPORT
On the 31st July 2011, my class had organised an ‘ English Day’ Programme with a
primary school in Jeli Kelantan. The venue was at PondokModenJeli. Around forty of us
went that day. The aim of the programme was to motivate and to encourage students to
love the English Language.
The journey to PondokModenJeli started at 5.00am. Many students turned up well
before 5.00am because they were ready and eager to be on the way. The journey was
uneventful and we reached our destination safely at 7.30am. As soon as we arrived, we
queued up for the registration. Registration was done swiftly and efficiently. After our
class had registered themselves, we broke into small groups and registered the
students from the Primary school.
Then, at 10.30am, everybody was seated at the grand hall for the Opening
Ceremony. It was officiated by Mr Ahmad Abdul Aziz, who was the Director of IPGKKB.
Mr Ahmad gave a speech which was very interesting and insightful. Everyone was
paying attention and behaved well.
At 11.00am, there was an ice-breaking activity. Our class came up with an activity
called ‘Charade’. It was a very interesting activity whereby everybody had to mix around
with the others and got to know each other better. The activity enabled everybody to feel
more comfortable and at ease with one another. The activity was a success as all the
students mingled around more freely after that. It was our hope to see the three main
races could get along well during this programme.
2. The activity broke up at around 12.30pm for lunch followed by Zuhur Prayer. After
that, orientation was held. As the organiser of the programme,we briefed the students
on the activities and told them more about the programme. Besides, the orientation was
meant to teach the students on the importance of punctuality and good moralities. The
participants were also given the opportunity to ask questions related to the one day
programme.
At 2.00p.m,we had our second activity. It was called ( Garbage ) King. In this activity,
we separated all the students and put them in different groups. They had towork
together to win the game. Through this activity, bonds wereforged amongst the
participants as everybody had to pull their own weight as one team. It was a very fun
activity judging by the laughter that broke out all around the groups. The surrounding too
looked clean and amazing.
Then, at 4.00pm, we gathered all the students for tea-break. The students filed up at
the hall to get the food and drinks. It was noted that everybody was in their best
behavior and there was much discipline as everybody waited for their food in the queue.
After tea-break, we taught the students to clear up after their mess and for the Muslim
students, they prepared themselves for the AsarPrayer.
Later at 5.00pm, activity 3 (Explore Race ) was held in the open field.Groups were
formed and then in groups, they had to race to different destinations to fulfill a task.
There were altogether 5 stations . The group that finished first would be declared the
winner. Once the whistle was blown, all the students rushed to their respective
stations. It was another fun-filled activity and it was a great success. Students were seen
talking, laughing and joking among themselves in the English Language. What a great
sight! The main purpose of the programme was achieved.
3. Dinner was held at 6.15pm. The food was prepared by the parents of some of our
classmates who had come to lend a hand in support of our class programme. The food
was well-cooked and very delicious with some students from the primary school asking
for a second helping.
At 7.15p.m there was Maghrib Prayer for the muslim students. For the rest of the
students who were not Muslims, we gathered them in the hall and presented children’s
songs, stories and short sketches for them.Besides that, we also encouraged them to
perform also. Some students sang and a few told stories. It was very entertaining. A boy
even went on stage to perform a simple magic trick! Everyone was eager to show off
her or his talent. Surprisingly the students were indeed very talented and ambitious.
Then at 8.00pm, everybody was ready for the closing ceremony. As the organiser of
the Language Camp Programme, our class performed a song for the benefit of the
students. Then we all stood up together and sang the ‘Satu Malaysia’ song. After the
singing session, we held a Photography Session with the students. It was a very
hilarious moment as everybody had to squeeze together to ensure their faces were in
the shot. It had been such a tiring day for everyone but everybody would go back with
thousand of memories. The students had experienced many new thingsand we also
gained benefits in organising this programme.
Before the departure, everybody rushed to get the e-mail address and phone number
from us. It was a very sad moment too as some students were emotional at having to
say goodbyes. The programme was a success as everybody gave it a thumbs-up and
said that never had they felt more motivated and eager to learn to use the English
language than today. They urged us to organize the programme again the following
year.
4. At 10.30pm, after much goodbyes and huggings, we depart to IPGKKB feeling tired
but happy. We boarded our bus waving goodbyes. We left the little children with heavy
heart and we could see them running towards our bus in the dark night. After sometime
there was silence and we all fell asleep in the moving bus.
