The document summarizes the key features and design elements of magazines targeted at different audiences. It discusses how magazines for children use bright colors, pictures, and minimal text on the cover to attract their attention. It also compares magazines for women and men, noting how women's magazines use more feminine colors and fonts while men's magazines employ darker, bolder designs. Finally, it analyzes a specialist football magazine, pointing out how elements like the large bold title, celebrity image on the cover, and match description are intended to appeal to the target audience of male sports fans aged 15-30.
3. Annotating of a magazine
For this magazine there is a big title with
bright colours, this would appeal to its
target audience (younger children)
because they would recognise it and
want to it straight away
Also there are pictures of different
characters on the front cover which
would attract the audience
On the front
cover it tells the
reader what's in
side, this will
make the reader
want to buy it
even more they
enjoy the activity
provided
Because children get attracted to pictures and
colours more than words, bbc has design this
magazine so that would happen.
4. Annotating of a magazine
In these magazines the BBC has
designed them to look more like
comics because they are aimed at
children who find it easy to read if
there's few words and more pictures.
Again there is many colours to make it stand out and a
big title to catch the readers attention and make them
buy it.
To make the reader want to buy
the magazine more, they are
giving away free things like the 2
match attacks.
To keep them making money they
have also added in a collection over 5
different magazines, eg the 5 laces.
In contrast to the children's football magazine
5. Compare of two
magazines
Gossip magazine Specialist magazine
Both of these some things, a title, sub-
heading and a front cover, however
the front cover of the Gossip
magazine consists of many stories,
this arracks the readers attention
because they will automatically want
to read on so that would make them
buy it. But on the specialist magazine
they focus on one audience and one
subject.
Another thing about these two magazine is the women magazine has different fonts,
with more girly colours like pink and purple, unlike a mans magazine, which is very
basic and got dark colours on, also it has a more basic and bold font.
6. Sport
• Specialist magazine
• Football-
• FourFourTwo
• Match of the day
• World soccer
• Shoot
• Strike it
• Football week
• Kick off
7. Title implies that this is aimed
at a male audience as they are
masculine colours and is a
specialist magazine for people
interested in football, therefore
the target audience are the
people only interested in this
subject.
Title covered with key
image, showing it is well
known and doesn’t need to
be on show, also makes the
magazines whole
appearance look less
intense.
The codes and conventions that the
masthead follows is that the title is
big and bold and it will attract a
large audience, with Van Perise on
the front cover it would appeal to
the target audience because he is
celebrating a goal and the ancourage
saying ‘ the decider’ is telling people
that he has just scored a winner.
The front cover is very useful, the
key is image is a celebrity status
who is a footballer and is robin
van Persie, this would attract
people that like him and support
Manchester united and also the
people that like football. this is a
very good selling point as a lot of
people support the top team and
would give them the interest of
buying the magazine as it has
their favourite team or player on
the front cover. The key image is
very interesting as it shows the
player celebrating and cheering
this would be another appealing
effect to the audience
9. Target audience
• My target audience is male, aged (15-30)
I believe that my target audience is mainstream but in main
steam I am a sports junkie. ‘Sports Junkies used to mean
being motivated, dedicated and all about the win – but
today, the majority are much more high street than high
level performance. They are simply young people for whom
playing team sports is a key passion point in their life, and
build their identity and community around playing sports.’
