21. Hi, I’m Gregory, the Terrible Eater. As you know from my story, it’s important to eat well balanced meals. The Food Pyramid is a way to help you know what foods you should eat. The Food Pyramid helps you choose a variety of foods so you can get the nutrients you need to stay healthy.
22. MENU The group at the bottom of the pyramid is the Bread, Cereal, Rice and Pasta Group. It’s at the bottom because you need to eat the most from this group. You need 6-11 servings a day. The foods in this group contain carbohydrates which give your body energy.
23. MENU The next group from the bottom is the Vegetable Group. It is towards the bottom because it means you need lots of daily servings of vegetables. You need 3-5 servings. Vegetables give you important nutrients and fiber which helps your digestive system.
24. The food group next to vegetables is the Fruit Group. This group is also towards the bottom and you need 2-4 servings a day. Fruits also have fiber which helps the digestive system. Fruits also have Vitamin C and other important nutrients . MENU
25. MENU The Milk, Yogurt and Cheese Group is higher up on the pyramid. The foods in this group are important but you don’t need to eat as many. Calcium is a very important nutrient that comes from these foods. You need calcium for strong teeth and bones. You need 2-3 servings a day.
26. The next group is the Meat, Poultry, Fish, Dry Beans, Eggs and Nuts Group. These foods are on the same level as the milk group. This means that you don’t need to eat as many servings a day. You need 2-3 servings a day. Protein is an important nutrient that you get from these foods. MENU
27. The group at the top of the pyramid is Fats, Oils, and Sweets. This section is different from the others. It doesn’t make up a food group. They are at the top of the pyramid and you should use sparingly. That means don’t use too much. Your body only needs a small amount of fat. Sugary foods have carbohydrates but usually don’t have many vitamins and have too much fat and calories in them . MENU
28. MENU Click here for a web site about the Food Pyramid. So now that we know how many servings we need from each group, what’s a serving size? The amount of cereal you eat in the morning may be more than one serving.
