What words, programs, or services come to mind when you think about the public library? (wait for student responses) While many of these are still true, a lot has changed in the last decade or so for public libraries! They’re doing a lot of innovative, outside-the-box stuff now. I know y’all are planning on leaping out of your chairs to get to apublic library as soon as I’m done talking, so fortunately for you, there’s one really close by. Richmond Public Library’s main branch is just a 5-minute bike ride—or a 15-minute walk—from the center of campus.
We’ve tried to keep things sassy for you in this session, but I want to end on a more solemn note: specifically, a video that addresses the continuing importance of the printed word (Old Spice Guy’s response to Andy Woodworth’s tweet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bu-KBxOtJxs).to close: write down 1 thing on a sticky note that you found surprising or useful todaywill help us in the future, plus we’re genuinely curious!while you’re doing this… any questions?pass out handouts (https://www.smore.com/g11yb-awesome-stuff-your-public-library)
