 1.7 million cloud computing jobs unoccupied
 Estimation of 7 million cloud-related vacancies

According to the analyst firm IDC3
IoT
 European Committee estimates that the market value of
the IoT in the EU will exceed one trillion euros in 2020
 in 2014 just 300,000 developers contributed to the IoT,
4.5 million developers by 2020 are expected, reflecting
a 57% compound annual growth rate and a massive
market opportunity
IoE
 Particular case of IoT: Energy-oriented
 IoT-based smart sensors assess performance and provide
real-time analytics to stakeholders. Interoperability
between intelligent devices may lead to automatic
optimization of consumption and increased efficiency of
the networks
 Integration of energy systems, communication and
electronic systems and web services
 Main limits to the diffusion of IoE seems to be the lack
of professionals in the sector and the low level of
knowledge of the technology
Aims of our projects
1. Raising awareness among European Companies, Public
Administrations and Universities regarding how new
technologies can boost economic growth and
innovation
2. Creating VET qualifications, based on sector analysis
3. Training staff to introduce and manage new
technologies and services inside their organizations

 interviews of stakeholders and existing sector studies
 publications and reports at national and international
levels

Conclussions
 Improvement of SMEs competitiveness is crucial for mid
and long-term economic development

technologies such as cloud computing, Internet of Things
and Internet of Energy becomes highly important for their
future.
 Several OERs can be used to provide a complete
learning experience
 The use of OERs maximizes its visibility over the time
and ensures the possibility of reuse and continuous
quality improvement by the community

  • 3. Lack of professionals in Cloud  1.7 million cloud computing jobs unoccupied  Estimation of 7 million cloud-related vacancies worldwide According to the analyst firm IDC3
  • 4. IoT  European Committee estimates that the market value of the IoT in the EU will exceed one trillion euros in 2020  in 2014 just 300,000 developers contributed to the IoT, 4.5 million developers by 2020 are expected, reflecting a 57% compound annual growth rate and a massive market opportunity
  • 5. IoE  Particular case of IoT: Energy-oriented  IoT-based smart sensors assess performance and provide real-time analytics to stakeholders. Interoperability between intelligent devices may lead to automatic optimization of consumption and increased efficiency of the networks  Integration of energy systems, communication and electronic systems and web services  Main limits to the diffusion of IoE seems to be the lack of professionals in the sector and the low level of knowledge of the technology
  • 6. Aims of our projects 1. Raising awareness among European Companies, Public Administrations and Universities regarding how new technologies can boost economic growth and innovation 2. Creating VET qualifications, based on sector analysis 3. Training staff to introduce and manage new technologies and services inside their organizations
  • 7. Design methodology 1. Design of assessment instruments:  questionnaires submitted by Survey Monkey  interviews of stakeholders and existing sector studies  publications and reports at national and international levels 2. Needs’ analysis and labor market analysis 3. Certifications design 4. Courses development  Consisting of different types of OERs

  • 9. Videolectures  Video lectures (MOOC-like) for the training courses  6 languages:

Interviews  Experts, ICT specialists, developers, managers of ICT infrastructures, researchers, managers of companies, experts in technological innovation, creators of innovative start-ups are the potential interviewed people. Webinars  The development of a series of webinars will be realized gathering the views and experience of different experts on IoE technology, companies and policy makers.  Aims:  Start to create a “community” of people interested to the topics  Create expectations towards the next training courses

Demonstrators  Implementation of highly innovative experiments of IoT technologies  Students can make practical experiences in controlled situations but using real equipment or platforms  This learning-by-doing methodology is fundamental when dealing with a topic such as the ones studied in these projects, where practical skills are essential  Virtual or remote labs
  • 14. IoT Demonstrators. Examples:  Smart Industry  small-scale industrial plant, equipped foot-based sensors, actuators and controllers  Smart Home  domestic environment equipped of different IoT based controllers and sensors. E.g. weather station

Examples:  Smart monitoring  IoT-based controllers, equipped of different kind of sensors and actuators, adopted to monitor an area and perform specific actions  Smart Telecommunications  including towers interconnected provided of sensors and controllers  Smart Energy systems  distributed renewable sources of energy and load, integrated with IoT-based sensors and controllers

IoE demonstrators  Small-scale energy storage systems  connected to energy networks and the web, tore produce a smart grid with intelligent models of storage and reload; Smart home energy systems  including sensors and controllers interconnected and integrated through the web, for an intelligent monitoring of the system;
  • 28. IoE demonstrators  Simulators of reload networks for electric vehicles  using the IoE technology to interconnect the charging stations and vehicles and to manage in an intelligent way the system;  Small-scale energy systems  including some distributed renewable sources of energy and load, integrated with IoT-based sensors and controllers to realize an intelligent and automated control
  • 29. Conclussions  Improvement of SMEs competitiveness is crucial for mid and long-term economic development  the development of didactic courses for SMEs about new technologies such as cloud computing, Internet of Things and Internet of Energy becomes highly important for their future.  Several OERs can be used to provide a complete learning experience  The use of OERs maximizes its visibility over the time and ensures the possibility of reuse and continuous quality improvement by the community
