2. Brief Overview No experience needed to play. Show of hands who knows the basic rules about ice hockey? Rules and Penalties Equipment and teams. Court Fun, relaxed, and active. Little difference between ice and floor.
3. Experience You are not required to have prior experience. Same concept and rules as ice hockey. In your gymnasium. Everyone can play. Gender doesn’t matter. Athletic ability will increase. Along with knowledge.
4. Rules Game starts with the drop of a ball/puck. Sticks stay below the waste. No tripping Slashing Hitting Penalties will be assessed. (no more then 2) No off sides, except at the faceoff.
5. Rules cont. Period length. (class length) Three 12 minute periods. Penalties assed for infractions. 2 minute penalties. If 3 people penalized still have 3 on court.
6. Rules cont. Proper positioning at face-off. Only offside is at face-offs. Center ice or (5 designated for gym) Like soccer and basketball. Center lined up across from opponent Center. Right wing on opponent left and vice versa. Defense back behind forwards.
7. Equipment Players Stick Gloves if owned Safety glasses or helmet. Proper gym class attire. (gym shorts/shoes)
8. Equipment cont. Goalies Goalie stick Trapper keeper (baseball glove) Blocker (hand that holds stick) Street hockey pads (for legs) Goalie mask or helmet!!
9. Teams 2 teams. Split class in half. 6 players (1 goalie, 2 defense, 3 forwards) Left wing, Center, Right wing. Left D, Right D. Defend one end. Score at the other end.
11. Differences Floor hockey easy for gym class. No ice rink. Easy for everyone to participate. Not all pads required. Ball rather then puck.
12. Fun class Everyone can play. Learn the basics to hockey. Better understanding. Appreciate the game. Support school team. Great way to exercise and use new muscles.
