How effective is the combination of your ancillary texts with narration
1. How effective is the combination of
your main product and ancillary
texts?
Mohamed Hassan
2. The ancillary texts for my main product, a teaser
trailer were a magazine front cover and a
poster. This as a package would create the
marketing for my film. Although some links
are needed to connect the three I felt it was
important to make each one distinct in order
to appeal to the audiences they were targeted
at.
3. My teaser trailer and ancillary texts were
created after analysing existing products
therefore when I researched magazine front
covers and posters this is what I found..
4.
5. From the research I conducted I was able to plan
and construct my ancillary texts. However, I chose
not to have the same image recurring in all three
products because the difference in the products
create a sense of mystery, as if each one showed
a different perspective. Furthermore, not all
three texts will be seen by the same audience so
having different images/themes of the film
portrayed in all three allows my products to reach
out to a much larger audience.
6. However they are still connected. The man on
the magazine front cover is the protagonist
shown in the teaser trailer and the man
shown on the poster is the antagonist shown
in the teaser trailer. This is also evident from
the bright colours used on the magazine cover
that represent positivity whilst the poster was
grey and dark representing negativity.
7. The repetition of the name of the film, “Calibre”
in all three products is key to linking them
together, written in a large font (from dafont),
it allows the audience to be familiarised with
the film.
8. From my magazine research I realised that most
of the covers featured the star/protagonist of
the film and the theme of the front cover
would follow the theme of the film such as the
Ironman film in Empire where blue lightning
seems to surround the “Empire” name.
Therefore my magazine cover also featured
the protagonist with a metallic edge to the
lettering of “Empire” to suggest a
hardness/toughness about the film.
9. The “Calibre” evident near the bottom of the
magazine also features on the bottom of the
poster. It is also the last thing they see on all
my products so they remember the name.
