2. Wildlife in Romania is usually affected by
all types of pollution, but mostly by
atmospheric, soil and water pollution.
Breathing contaminated air and drinking
toxic water may lead to severe
permanent damage to animals’ health
and life quality. Shortness of breath,
blurry eyesight, lack of coordination, hair
loss, organ injury and lower reproductive
success can all be symptoms caused by
breathing poisonous air that harm wild
animals’ life. Man-made pollution is one
of the main threats to wildlife habitat and
natural environment.
3. Romania is the ideal habitat for many animal
species due to the diversity of ecosystems and
extensive forests, but illegal hunting and
deforestation continue to wreak havoc on
wildlife.
Numerous species of wild
animals live in Romania,
some very well known,
others less so. The plains,
mountains and forests of our
country are populated by a
diverse fauna. Here are the
wild animals that live in
Romania and where they
can be found
4. The only antelope species that inhabited Romania is now critically
endangered because of hunting and deforestation. Some specimens
live in the nature reserve in Lunca Prutului, but they can no longer be
found in the wild.

6. BISON
The largest land animal in Europe, the Bison, was hunted to
extinction in our country. After the introduction of 5 bisons in 2012,
their number has increased to around 100, living in reservations.
