Behavior Assessment Findings
Record ID: 202475
Kalamazoo County Animal Services
Species: Dog
Name: Dolly
Gender: Female
Breed: American Bulldog mix
Color: White/Red
Pattern: Bicolor
Altered: (Unknown)
Age: 2 years, 1 month
Shelter Area: Dogs - Large Pen: 105
Primary ID: Intake ID: 81949
Date: Tuesday, September 17, 2013 Conclusion:Behavior 1
Behavior on Leash
Pulls
Walks She walked nicely coming back in, but going out she
pulled, which may have just been her needing to go to
the bathroom. If she finds a smell she likes, she'll put
her whole body into following its trail, so you may have
to use two hands to restrain her. Of course,
distraction with hot dogs pulls her attention back to the
trainer. :)
Behavior With Strangers
Polite-Friendly Nice sniffing and tail wagging, no jumping observed
during assessment.
Cage Behavior - Activity
Calm Exit She waited nicely for my to put the leash on, although
she was a little hesitant when it was going over her
head. She waited until I opened the door to come out.
Quiet and calm in cage
Resistant to go in She was a little resistant coming in from outside, but
after a little coaxing followed me nicely. She paused
again at the entrance to the run, but again followed
me for hot dogs.
Cage Behavior - Noise Level
Rarely barks (may be a good choice for apartment
dwellers/working homes)
Cage Behavior-Strangers
Front of cage, with encouragment
Food Bowl
Passed
With Reservation She was a bit eager, eating the wet food. I could
move the bowl easily, but when I tried to move her
face out of the bowl with the assist-a-hand, she stayed
firmly in place. She is a bit chunky, and so she seems
a little greedy regarding food. However, I did not see
this as grounds to fail her because of her otherwise
extremely sweet demeanor and the fact that she takes
hot dogs with no mouthiness at all. Very gentle.
General Observations
Calm
Confident

Distracted Especially by smells.
Gentle
Responds Especially for hot dogs. Fatty :)
Secure
House Broken
Yes No mess in cage (although it had just been cleaned so
there may have been some before), and she went #1
and #2 as soon as she reached the grass outside, in
quick succession.
Physical Control - Hug
Easy to handle
Mellow and tractable
Recommendations
Children She may do well with children, given her sweet, calm
demeanor, and her lack of jumping. She is, however,
a big, strong dog, and may do better in a house with
older children as opposed to younger. Her food bowl
habits would need to be communicated and watched.
First Impression She seems like a big, sweet girl who loves her food.
:) She is very gentle, so don't let her size keep you
from taking her out; she's very responsive for treats.
Safety Exam
Date 9-17-13 WMU passed.
Toys
No Interest
Passed W/Reservation She was not overly interested in the toys, did not pick
any of them up in her mouth.
