(Lawrence, Kansas to Shawnee, Kansas)
Sunrise Ceremony
800 hours Breakfast
830 hours Prepare teams
900 hours Leave from Haskell’s Eco-Walk
1000 hours Connect to Haskell’s Rail Trail
1100 hours Walk through downtown Lawrence
1200 hours Break into teams. Head to different starting points
1600 hours Visit Shawnee Indian Mission (1839-1862)

6. May 15th
Connect to Trail of Death at Independence!

9. How are we going to do this?

10.  There will be four teams.
(Land, Animal, People, and Drivers)
 Each team will have responsibilities.
 Each team will travel 10 miles a day,

11. Every team will have their own starting and stopping point.
We will all camp together each night.

12.  Pick up trash along freeway
 Log and dispose of trash in each town
 Clean up campsites
 Find campsite for each day
 Locate landmarks (hot springs, trails)
 Give weather updates
 Haul water

19.  Every team will have four leaders and each leader
will be assigned a task.

20.  The Land Leader of the Land Team oversees all of the
Land Teams activities.
 Ensures trash is disposed of and logged
 In charge of campsite clean up
 Suggests places to visit
 Tracks weather patterns in area
 Hauls enough water for entire team

21.  The Land Leader of the Animal Team will serve as a
liaison for the two teams.

25. A cycle is the amount of distance we cover in a certain
amount of time.
We’re going to run on a 5 day cycle, where we travel
approximately 30 miles each day for 4 days, then rest.
Day 1: Shawnee, KS/30 miles (cycle begins)
Day 2: Buckner, MO/28 miles
Day 3: Richmond, MO/31 miles
Day 4: Carrolton, MO/30 miles
Day 5: Rest (end of cycle)
*Teams have the opportunity to re-structure at the end of each cycle.
What is a cycle?

26. If we are unable to travel one day because of the weather, or
we are held up for an event, we simply pause the cycle.
When we’re ready to hit the road again, we pick up where
we left off.
Day 1: Shawnee, KS - 30 miles (cycle begins)
Day 2: Buckner, MO - 28 miles
Day 3: Unforeseen Event (pause cycle)
Day 4: Richmond, MO - 31 miles (resume cycle)
Day 5: Carrolton, MO - 30 miles
Day 6: Rest (end of cycle)
*We are asking teams to stay together for the entire duration of each cycle.*
