This brief tutorial teaches the end user how to setup advanced editing features in MS Word 2003, 2007, and 2010.

3.  Microsoft’s Word application comes set with
default settings of Grammar only; however,
the application can be set for more extensive
editing features with the setting of Grammar
and Style Settings.
 These features are invaluable when self-
editing a paper, especially an APA 6th Edition
paper.

5. Locating & Setting the
Advanced Editing Features
1. From the Menu Bar, select
Tools > Options
2. From the New Window,
select the Spelling &
Grammar Tab
3. From the Grammar section
in this window, select
Writing style, using the drop
down arrow choose
Grammar & Style
4. Click on the button titled
Settings . . .

window, locate the Require
section, for this is where you
can set APA specific rules APA 6th Edition Rules Location
8. Comma required before last list
item: Select always from the Comma: Use a comma between Chapter 4: Section 4.03 – Comma
drop down menu elements (including before and and (p. 88)
or) in a series of three or more
9. Punctuation required with items (APA, 2010, p. 88).
quotes: Select inside from the
Double or Single Quotation Marks Chapter 4: Section 4.08 – Double or
