2. What is it?
• A security flaw that can allow a
hacker to take complete control of
your computer!
• You are affected if you click on a
malicious link while using Internet
Explorer web browser
• Affects versions 6 to 11

3. How serious is it?
• Really serious. So serious that the US
Department of Homeland Security is
involved!
• The hacker would have complete
control of your computer and could
install programs, view, change or
delete accounts with full user rights!
• This is especially bad for people still
using Windows XP, which is no longer
supported by Microsoft

4. How do you get infected?
• You are using Internet Explorer and
you see a link that suggests that you
click on it.
• It can also strike if you click on certain
unprotected advertisements or other
websites that are vulnerable.
• You are not infected until you take an
action (click on a link in your email or
Instant messenger, or open an
attachment)

5. Important note
• None of these things will happen if
you do not initially click on that
malicious site though.
• So, by avoiding Internet Explorer,
you will not be at risk!

6. What does Microsoft suggest?
• Microsoft is working on a fix, but it may
not be ready until May 13
• They suggest that you enable your
firewall, apply all software updates and
install anti-malware software
• They also suggest that you use the
EMET (Enhanced Mitigation
Experience Toolkit) to manage security
migration and make it more difficult for
attackers to exploit vulnerabilities

8. Easier solution???
• EMET is a bit confusing, and
beyond the scope of most of our
technical abilities.
• For best results, USE ANOTHER
BROWSER until this is corrected.
