1. Digestion System
• Takes in material needed by body and breaks
it down into a form your body can use.
• Body uses this form to grow, repair and carry
our life processes.
• Body cant function properly without constant
supply of substance.
• Good breakfast restores material used while
you sleep.
2. Break Down of Food in Two Ways
• 1) Mechanical Digestion: tearing crushing and
mashing of food.
• 2) Chemical Digestion: enzymes help break
down food into nutrients
3. Organs of Digestion System
• Liver: Produces Bile to
digest fat and stores
nutrients and break
down harmful
substances in blood
• Gallbladder: stores
bile until needed in small
intestines.
• Pancreas:
produces
enzymes that neutralize
stomach acid in small
intestines.
4. Process Of Digestion
• Mouth- Mechanical
digestion
• Esophagus-
moist food
passes through to stomach
• Stomach-
squeezes and
contracts
• Small Intestines-
most
digestion takes place here,
Villa pass food into blod
• Large Intestinesmaterials not absorb into
blood are passed here and
stored as solid waste until it
leaves body.
6. HEART
• Muscular organ the size of your fist
• Beats 79 times a minute in adults
• Moves blood to parts of the body
7. BLOOD
• Consist of Red and white
blood cells, platelets and
plasma
• Plasma- liquid part of
blood, picks up waste
• Capillaries- smallest blood
vessels in your body, very
narrow, blood leaves and
flows to veins.
• Veins- larger vessels, carry
blood TO heart
• Arteries- carries blood
AWAY from heart
8. Respiratory System
• Includes Lungs, nose,
trachea, bronchial tubes
and alveoli
• Takes in oxygen from air
and releases carbon
dioxide.
• Alveoli- tiny sacs,
covered with capillaries.
