2. The People
• The Inuit lived in parts of Nunavut, the Northwest
Territories, and Northern Quebec.
3. Homes
• In the winter, most of the Inuit lived in
igloos. The Inuit made the igloos out of
blocks of ice. The blocks were stacked in
a circle. The higher the blocks stacked,
the smaller they were. This formed a
dome.
• In the summer the Inuit lived in tents. The
tents were made out of whale’s bones and
animal skins.
4. Clothing
• The Inuit made parkas out of caribou
hides. Women’s parkas had a special
pouch for their babies.
• Pants were made from caribou hides.
They protected the Inuit from freezing
wind, ice and snow.
• Mittens were made from sealskin,
because it was strong and waterproof.
5. Tools
• The Inuit used a harpoon-like tool called
unaq.
• Nitsiq were used to pull harpooned seals.
It was used for hunting whales and animals
out of the water.
• The Inuit wore snow goggles to protect
their eyes from the bright sun and snow.
• Komatiks were sleds pulled by one or
more dogs.
