2. Climate Vocabulary Greenhouse effect- the heating of Earth’s surface and atmosphere from solar radiation being absorbed and emitted by the atmosphere, mainly by water vapor and carbon dioxide. Climate Change- the heating and cooking of the earth. This occurs over either short or long periods of time all over the world. Global Warming-the unusually rapid increase in Earth’s average temperature over the past century, due to the greenhouse gases released by people burning fossil fuels.
3. Relations Heating and cooling of the Earth can be caused by the greenhouse effect, climate change, and global warming. Burning fossil fuels pours out greenhouse gases at a life threatening rate causing global warming.
4. Global Warming Causes Pollution by humans (cars, factories, etc.) The Industrial Revolution CO2 entering Earths atmosphere and effecting greenhouse gas levels
5. Consequences of Global Warming Melting ice caps Effects rainfall Amplifies coastal erosion Lengthens the growing seasons Alters ranges of some infectious diseases
6. Economy Global warming has caused abnormal growing seasons because of the CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere which has made crops, because of this prices have raised.
7. Ways to fight Global Warming Less fossil fuels Eliminating factories Lessoning waste pollution Replacing fuels with electric generators
8. Arguments That the Earth naturally changes over time. That the Earth is releasing heat into the ocean. Climate has changed in the past without human intervention. The climate models are just models on a computer screen and not reliable.
9. Opinions Noelle- “I don’t really think global warming exists. If you look at the history of the earth it heats and cools on its own naturally and adapts to all of the climates.” Linsey- “My opinion on global warming is that humans have some part to do with it. With the increase in CO2 I think that the human pollution has a part in that. But I agree with Noelle that the Earth does heat and cool’s on it’s own naturally.”
