2. Mesopotamia
In Mesopotamia they buried their dead, but they
did not try to preserve the bodies.
Grave markers above ground were rare.
Cremation was also rare because that involved
building a big fire in a place with not much
wood, so it would cost a lot.

beneath their houses or
in a grave yard.
Normally they were
buried in stone or a
coffin. The most often
was 1-2 stone pots.

In Egypt they believed that when someone died their
spirit was permanently with the body. So they
preserved the body.
In Egypt because of the sand, air, and climate the
bodies could be preserved. They did this by burying the
bodies shallow pits in the sand to dry.

archeologists, and some were destroyed for
medical purposes.

The average life span was 40 years long.
The mummification was only for people who
could pay for it.
Most mummies were made for people in higher
classes, because they could pay for it.
At least 70 million mummies were made in 3,000
years.

When someone dies they can be cremated or
buried in a grave.
The graves usually has a cross or a plank with
their name on it.
There is usually a funeral or a celebration of life.

people get cremated.
People get cremated
because its
cheaper, cultural, and
because its more
environmentally friendly.

9. Greece
Proper burials and rituals are important for the
body to go into the afterlife.
If the ritual was not properly completed they
believe the body would suffer between worlds.

10. In Greece the afterlife was known as Hades. It was a dark place
where souls goes after death.
