DEVELOPMENT
Objective
•To understand the purpose of the
continuing professional
development in providing the
support of teachers.
• Continuing Professional Development
(CPD) or Continuing Professional
Education (CPE) is the means by which
members of professional associations
maintain, improve and broaden their
knowledge and skills and develop the
personal qualities required in their
professional lives. (Artitruk, 2010)

Training and development - what's the
difference?
•Training can be as simple as using a
PC application and as complex as
learning how to be a teacher.
•Development is often informal and has
a wider application, giving you the
tools to do a range of things and
relating to capability and competency.
CPD Learning Types
• A. Structured/Active Learning
-CPD structured / active learning involves
interactive and participation-based study.
• B.Reflective Learning
-Reflective learning involves no participant-
based interaction, so this form of CPD is much
more passive and one directional.

• C. Self-Directed Learning
-Self-directed learning involves all
unaccompanied CPD activities. It covers the
reading of documents, articles and publications;
either in print or online.
The key features of the CPD pRocess
a CPD needs to:
• be a documented process
• be self-directed: driven by you, not your
students
• focus on learning from experience, reflective
learning and review
• help you set development goals and objectives
• include both formal and informal learning.
What will it do for you?
It is also very useful to:
• provides an overview of your professional
development to date
• reminds you of your achievements and how
far you've progressed
• directs your career and helps you keep
your eye on your goals
• uncovers gaps in your skills and
capabilities

• Opens up further development needs
• provides examples and scenarios for a CV
or interview
• demonstrates your professional standing to
clients and employers
• helps you with your career development or
a possible career change.

way suits you best.

  • 2. Objective •To understand the purpose of the continuing professional development in providing the support of teachers.
  • 3. • Continuing Professional Development (CPD) or Continuing Professional Education (CPE) is the means by which members of professional associations maintain, improve and broaden their knowledge and skills and develop the personal qualities required in their professional lives.   • 4. Training and development - what's the difference? •Training can be as simple as using a PC application and as complex as learning how to be a teacher. •Development is often informal and has a wider application, giving you the tools to do a range of things and relating to capability and competency.
  • 5. CPD Learning Types • A. Structured/Active Learning -CPD structured / active learning involves interactive and participation-based study. • B.Reflective Learning -Reflective learning involves no participant- based interaction, so this form of CPD is much more passive and one directional. O
  • 6. • C. Self-Directed Learning -Self-directed learning involves all unaccompanied CPD activities. It covers the reading of documents, articles and publications; either in print or online.
  • 7. The key features of the CPD pRocess a CPD needs to: • be a documented process • be self-directed: driven by you, not your students • focus on learning from experience, reflective learning and review • help you set development goals and objectives • include both formal and informal learning.
