1. STAKE HOLDER
She is a 20 year old young, intelligent and pro- active
student pursuing Design course in an Indian Institute of
Technology.
She is hardworking, and also involved in a lot of other co-
curricular activities apart from academics. She is looking for
an internship opportunity in foreign universities and firms.
2. EMPATHY MAP
SAY :
-I study Design in Indian Institute of
Management with interests in other extra
co-curricular activities as well.
- I have been looking for international
internships and programmes in the
following ways –
- I made my CV according to my
preferred choice of internship.
- I searched for good design firms and
universities abroad on internet, looked at
their course structure and saw if I could fit
in.
- I mailed a lot of professors and hr’s
of universities and company’s respectively
and also gave some informal telephonic
interviews.
- I also got in touch with a lot of
alumni’s through social networking sites.
- I applied in Europe, Switzerland and
Germany.
THINK:
-A thoughtful and creative course but
done from a technical institute, so a
technical background as well.
- Does being good at co-curricular
activities help her? Or if she could
highlight it in some way.
- How to make resume and CV is not
taught in school.
- Could she have got in touch with her
professors as well when she was applying
to other professors in foreign universities.
- Does it work well on telephonic
interviews or face to face interviews are
better ?
- A good use of social networking sites.
- Does she know the VISA process and
other formalities if she gets selected in
one of those countries?
- She should have read about it before
applying.
3. SAY
-Recruiters ask tricky questions to test your
knowledge.
- The CV plays a very important role in getting
you shortlisted.
-Some professors offer stipend to
international students
- A lot of theory is taught in the college, not
much application stuff.
-Competition among the students is cut-
throat.
-People sometimes go out of the right way to
get things done.
- There is a little fear of interviews as some
interviewers frown at you when answered
wrong.
- There is a fear of getting a right impression
on the professor or interviewer.
- Sometimes lack of motivation.
THINK
-She was not trained to react to such
attitudes and questions. She should have
prepared more for the interview questions.
- How to make a resume is not taught in
school
- Budgetary constraints play an important
role.
- You have to be pro-active and agile to get
through the competition.
-She should have been really quick to avoid
all errors.
- Should the students be really scared of the
first impression they will be giving ?
- Can the CV’s they send across be a right
medium to judge a person’s talent ?
- She should have written self motivation
letters.
4. DO FEEL
-Looks happy
-Looks a little skeptical in answering
a few questions.
-Looks pleased to be a part of the
interview
- She got to learn a few things about
herself.
- Was self motivated.
-Internet has become one of the
basic necessities for students.
-Students fancy foreign internships.
- Schools and colleges do not teach
the students the necessary skills for
interviews.
- Students should be given a more
through knowledge of experiences
they would face in the industry.
-How to make students learn the
skills they would be needing in such
cases ?
5. PROBLEM STATEMENT :
The young, intelligent and highly motivated student I interviewed needs to
learn and build on the required skills of such interview processes more by
herself as the schools and colleges do not give any specific training for it.
