6. Health and wellbeing Illness and health problems Illness or injury can prevent you from training or playing sport. Short-term illness (e.g. a cold) can prevent you from training and the principle of reversibility can begin to take effect. Long-term illness or injury can make exercising difficult and can cause problems with fitness levels and weight management. Professional sports players can often suffer from psychological problems when they are injured as they may get dropped from their team or lose their fitness levels. Doctors or physiotherapists should always be consulted if an individual is unsure whether to exercise due to illness.
