THE 8 HABITS ONE BY ONE… <ul><li>Before we can begin to discuss the 8 habits, we need to understand what Covey means by the word PARADIGM. </li></ul><ul><li>“ A paradigm is the way an individual perceives, understands and interprets the surrounding word --- a mental map” </li></ul>“ Never, ever, think outside the box.”

Habit 1: Be Proactive <ul><li>What is the difference between “Reactive ” and “Proactive ”? </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The major difference is CHOICE </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Reactive people instantly are responding to a stimulus, there is no room for choice </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Proactive people think first – even for a minute – they choose how they will respond, hopefully in sync with their values and goals </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Circle of Influence/Circle of Concern </li></ul>

My mission is to live with integrity and to make a difference in the lives of others. to play to laugh to learn to love Let the first act of every morning be to make the following resolve for the day: I shall fear only God. I shall not bear ill toward anyone. I shall not submit to injustice from anyone. I shall conquer untruth by truth. And in resisting untruth, I shall put up with all suffering -Mahatma Gandhi I want to be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

Habit 3- Put First Things First Activity <ul><li>Design Put First Things First section on your eportfolio </li></ul><ul><li>Identify a few of your biggest time wasters </li></ul><ul><li>How will you eliminate them so you will spend more time in Quadrant II? </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Ex: Going to bed too early is one of my biggest time wasters right now.  I am trying to eliminate this by taking a walk after dinner to energize me a bit and I am planning my evenings so I can get things done around the house and not have it pile up for the weekend.  This will free up my weekends to spend time with my family. </li></ul></ul>
