1. How effective is the combination of
your main product and ancillary
texts?
2. At the start…
• Initially once I started preparation for my ancillary
work, one of the main goals I set myself is that there
must be some sort of visual link between the music
video, digipak and advert.
• However, I didn’t want to make a very obvious visual
links for example, in the Perfect Stranger, video
majority of the shots involve graffiti– an obvious link
would be to have aspects of graffiti in my work. I
thought that would’ve been a lazy choice, I wanted
to explore new styles of design and try to be creative
as possible!
3. MUSIC VIDEO
Visual links:
ANCILLARY
At the beginning of the Perfect Stranger video the
artist and song and appear on the screen, this was a
way of promoting the artists as well as the single
and familiarising the audience. ‘Emily presents’ and
‘Perfect Stranger’ are in the same font.
When it came to producing my ancillary work I
wanted to use either very similar font to the one
used in the video or the same font (as shown). I did
this because I thought it would be a good way of
reminding the audience of the video. Also, I was
thinking ahead about future videos and I would use
this font as Emily's signature font style.
4. MUSIC VIDEO
Visual links:
ANCILLARY
I wanted fashion to be one
of the main visual links
between my products.
This is because from the music
video Emily comes across as sort of ‘style icon’. All
four of the outfits she wears in the music video is
incorporated into the outfits she is wearing in the
ancillary work. This relates to the target audience;
young teens/adults both female and male.
Between my ancillary work and digipak I used the
hat, which Emily is seen wearing in the music
video as a motif throughout and I also used the
statement red lipstick as a clear link. Again, this is
something the target audience can relate to and is
easily recognisable.

6. • I’m very happy with the outcome of my ancillary work. Although I
changed the layout to suit the design I wanted I tried stick to the
original idea of the mock-up I made; the front panels of my Digipak
in particular.
• When it came to finalising my Digipak however, I realised I forgot
to add the copyright symbol even though I made the actual
reference. But because I had extreme difficulty with lining the
spine, already flattened and saved my Digipak as JPEG, I decided to
make two copies – one with the spine and without the copyright
symbol, and one without the spine and with the copyright symbol.
• I think the the target audience would be attracted to the ancillary
work especially, mainly because of the look of Emily and colours
used which makes it more intriguing. However one of the things I
would have done differently is making a visual link from the
colours in the music video, which were mostly bright because of
the graffiti.
