2. INTRODUCTION
• Based in Springfield, Missouri, Nadia Cavner leverages a successful
career in financial services to support a number of worthy local
charities. She has given philanthropically to the Our Promise
Campaign of Missouri State University and provided significant
donations to Care to Learn. Nadia Cavner’s role with Care to Learn
has enabled hundreds of thousands of vulnerable schoolchildren to
gain access to basic health care services, food, and hygiene items.
Through a contribution of $15,000, Ms. Cavner provided seed funds
toward the 2016 creation of a Monett Care to Learn chapter. This
brought the total number of chapters statewide to 27 and
expanded the reach of the organization to a community where
families experience cyclical financial stresses.
3. CARE TO LEARN
• As Ms. Cavner described it, Care to Learn has been successful in
distributing essential services without a lot of paperwork. By
ensuring that basic needs are met, the organization has helped
students remain focused on their studies and thrive. Recipients
grow up to become vital members of the local community and
ultimately give back, which reinforces the core mission of the
nonprofit.
Ms. Cavner commended the Monett School District’s partnership
with the backpack program of the Ozarks Food Harvest. She
pointed out that existing organizational capacities spanning
fundraising and outreach efforts would help “avoid reinventing the
wheel” and place assistance in the hands of those in need as quickly
as possible.
