CHANGE
?
”
Change, by its nature, presents
challenges and uncertainties. For
some people, change can generate
excitement, energy and drive. But
for others, change can cause stress.
Why do you fear change? And how
do you overcome this fear?
4 Common Types of
Behavioral Barriers:
#1. Perfectionism
Wants everything to be done to the very best. Often seen as a
‘positive’ trait, particularly when quality focus is the priority. But
can hold back results because ‘Nothing is perfect,’ and there is
always something which can be done better.
Get comfortable with ‘less is more’.
ü Decrease your need for data
ü Act more decisively with less
information at hand
#2. Control
Wants to know everything that is going on in detail and accurately
predicts what will happen next. Being in control of situations is a
good behavior, but too much of a control freak can make
situations too overwhelming and tensed.
Be open to changes.
ü Exploring new grounds and
changing routines, even in your
daily life, to get comfortable with
the ‘unexpected’
#3. Head in the sand
Avoids or disregards a situation or problem that is unpleasant or
uncomfortable, rather than trying to resolve them. This could be
due to fear of the ‘unknown’ and not actually knowing how to
deal with it.
Reduce your fear & be prepared .
ü Ask ‘why’ to understand"
the implications
ü Talk to people with positive
views of the change
#4. Fear of failure
Afraid to fail, therefore afraid to try. Most change efforts do fail.
Did you know that 95% of technological innovations never made
it to the marketplace? But those that succeeded made the trying
worthwhile. So why not?
Understanding ‘failure’.
ü Anything worth doing takes risk
and repeated effort
ü Follow advice – try it – then learn
from your mistakes
