Betrayal is something that many people encounter. John Gottman explains, "I believe that by
understanding the dynamics of trust and betrayal, we can work to make relationships more trusting.
But more than that we can help people become more trustworthy" (Gottman, 2011). To explain,
"...the definition of betrayal involves the act of someone violating your trust in them" (Monica A.
Frank, 2004). Thus, in order for me to move past all of the betrayals bestowed to me from my
marriage, I need to learn to trust people again. After I was married, there were countless times that I

After re–reading some of my journal entries, I realized that I had documented him and his best
friend leaving for 2 months straight, every Saturday, to help others like his brother, his sister, his
other brother, his other brother, his best friend, his best friend's mom, his best friend's grandpa, his
cousin, etc. Moreover, my journal was ultimately a huge assistance with my realization that our
relationship was not getting any better. Furthermore, my journal turned out to be records of
countless betrayals and dysfunctions that occurred throughout my marriage. Oftentimes, "When the
people we love or with whom we have a deep connection stop caring, stop paying attention, stop
investing and fighting for the relationship, trust begins to slip away and hurt starts seeping in", we
begin to feel betrayed (Rankin M.D., 2012). Which I definitely felt when my husband was
constantly aiding others. The emotional pain and suffering that I allowed him to impart upon me is
unacceptable. My husband leaving with his best friend was just a minor betrayal that I endured
while we were married. There were many things that I let him get away with, and it is all because I
used to believe, "No matter what happens, the person you love and trust will care about your well

cries quietly on Robert's shoulder. She seems overwhelmed with all of the interactions. At this point

I can feel myself slipping, falling into the dark abyss. My mind whirls as I listen to a cacophony
of noise rush around me. Then I feel the frigid water envelope me and it stings like knives
burrowing their way into my skin, piercing every inch of me. I try to breath but the water clogs
my throat and threatens to drown me. Then it all stops and I feel the sunlight filter through the icy

says, "If it's for the good of all Romans, I'd do it even if it meant my death" (No Fear Shakespeare.

Brutus took money from Asia, "turned the wealth into gold and silver coins. Some, following
Caesar's example, with his own portrait on them" (Badian). This evidence points to Brutus being
jealous of Caesar's lifestyle and tried trying to make his life similar. He knew that the people of
Rome appreciated the way Caesar lead the town, so Brutus wanted to get that same attention, but
with even more respect. Assassinating Caesar was the easiest way to get the people to notice him.

Caesar truly believed Brutus was a friend; Brutus again wrongly judges Caesar's character. The
last misjudgment of character Brutus has is the misjudgment of Antony's true motives in
Caesar's funeral speech. Brutus tells Antony, "You shall not in your funeral speech blame us,
/ But speak all good you can devise of Caesar," (945). Antony agrees to everything Brutus tells
him, but secretly he plans on manipulating the crowd to turn on Brutus and Cassius. This
misjudgment of character leads to a war between the Roman Empire and Brutus's armies. This
character flaw, however, ultimately leads to the downfall of Brutus. The downfall of Brutus
begins to occur as soon as he makes the decision to kill Caesar. Due to the character flaw of
misjudgment of character, Brutus makes the decision to kill Caesar, which leads to his downfall.
The first loss he experiences is the loss of a friend, not an adversary, who happens to be Caesar.

Betrayal is a common thing in today's society. Forgiving others based on what they did is a big
step. It takes courage to forgive others and heal. Betrayal is when you lose a person trust based
on a person's actions. The day I felt betrayal was on my birthday, I would never thought the person
I called my friend would do something like that to me. I found my "friend" was having an affair
with my ex. I just wondered why would she do that it's like girl code. I found a way to forgive her

by William Shakespeare, we witness as Prospero makes that grave mistake of putting his trust into
