Cheng Hsien Tan Specific Purpose Statement: To persuade my audience to fight world hunger and
poverty through child sponsorship programs. Central Idea: The world has a huge problem with
poverty and hunger and this problem could be immensely downsized if everyone that has a little
extra money sponsors a child. Pattern of Organization: Problem–Solution IntroductionI.(Attention
Getter): How many of you see poverty and hunger as a problem in our world? How many of you
think that you cannot feasibly help solve this problem? II.(Reveal Topic): A lot of children around
the world are deprived of one or more of the essentials to survival and development. III.(Relate to
Audience): I am sure almost all of us in here will have...show more content...

(Transition): As you can see, global child poverty is a huge problem in our world today and I will
now share with you one solution that you can take part in to help fix this problem. II. By
sponsoring a child through a child sponsorship program, you can directly make an impact on that
child's life, family, community, and even the world. A. Child sponsorship consists of a few main
steps. 1. Select an organization to sponsor a child through. a. There are many organizations that do
offer child sponsorship including World Vision, Compassion Ministries, Food for the Hungry, and
many more. b. A lot of these organizations are very similar but usually have a slight difference in
the cost of sponsorship, the location of the children to sponsor, and slight differences into where they
place the money. c. Do some research and determine which organizations you think would best
benefit the child or community. 2. Select the child you are going to sponsor. a. All of the programs
that I have looked at have featured children to sponsor on their site. They list the child's name,
birthday, gender, location, what the child likes to do; family situation, community situation, and they
even show a picture of the child. b. The organizations usually let you specifically

Persuasive Essay On Online Classes
Most people think highly of online classes; get to work from home, get to work on a flexible
schedule, and anyone can do it. Though no one has heard the cons of taking one. I personally took
three semesters of online classes in high school and had a horrible experience. Because of loose
scheduling, poor communication, and the focus needed, online classes are not suitable for
procrastinators. To give a better understanding, I will summarize my experience with the class. Me,
being a procrastinator, thought to myself: I'll just work on the weekends and if I don't finish the
class by the end of the school year, I can finish within the first few weeks of summer. This was a
god awful plan. Unsurprisingly, close to nothing was accomplished on the weekends. Friends would
ask me to hang out every weekend, and I did every time. Why would I want to work on my class on
the weekend when I could be having fun? I would later regret this decision. On the days I stayed
home and could have worked on the class, I completed nothing. On these days, I would tell myself:
I'll just complete what I didn't do this weekend next weekend. This rarely happened. Thus, the cycle
of getting nothing accomplished started. I disregarded my class for most of the first semester of
junior year. With only nine assignments out of eighty finished after the first semester of the school
year, I was immensely behind. I told myself to get my act together during second semester and grind
out these two semesters

I think my persuasive speech went pretty well. I was a little nervous about going up to speak in
front of the class; however, the nervousness went away as I was getting into my speech. I noticed, as
I was speaking, I was swinging my body side to side a lot, I guess it was to kind of distract myself
from being nervous. But I stopped doing it after I realized I might be distracting my audience. My
speech was organized, I followed the format of the persuasive speech outline as prof. Igiel has
provided. My main points were fully supported by reliable sources. I maintained eye contact and
my posture was good. Also, I articulated words clearly. I did not pause effectively, but I don't think I
rushed through my speech. My language was clear and appropriate.

Procrastination
I.Attention Getter: A famous author by the name of Wayne Dyer once said, "Procrastination is one
of the most common and deadliest of diseases and its toll on success and happiness is incredibly
heavy."(1) In todays society it seems as if procrastination has become a normal and acceptable thing
to do. It is often joked about amongst schoolmates and co–workers around the world. Nothing seems
to get done until it absolutely needs to get done, then everyone runs around getting things done
quickly and often times inaccurately. The trouble with this mentality however is that some things
will never get done because something will come up tomorrow or the next day and what you are
putting off now gets pushed even further back. Today I will persuade you to stop this habit from
continuing. I will be explaining the problems we face when dealing with procrastination as well as
how to deal with it and actions you can take to prevent it in the future.
Transition: It is in our human nature to procrastinate, some of us do it more than others but learning
about this problem and understanding how it can effect you can be beneficial to everyone
II.Need(the Problem): According to an article from Psychology Today, "20 percent of people
chronically avoid difficult tasks and deliberately look for distractions" (2) and According to recent
research "Procrastination has more than quadrupled in the last 30

Persuasive Research Paper Outline
Week One Overview Everything you write has a purpose. Informal emails, texts, memos, essays,
and research papers are just a few examples. Your objective might be to persuade an audience to
accept new points of view or agree with your ideas. You might want to influence people to support
your stand on an issue. Writing a formal persuasive research paper is one way to induce others to
agree with your argument. In this course, you will have the opportunity to compose an argument
that will convince others to agree with your facts, share your values, accept your argument, and
elect your way of thinking about a topic. The first step is to define your topic, thesis/claim, and
purpose. Planning Your Persuasive Research Paper Next, you will create an Organizational Plan
and research your topic. The end result will be a formal persuasive research paper. The outcomes
and objectives for this course are that upon completion of the course you will be able to produce a
formal persuasive research paper. The activities you complete will help you through the writing
process. You will develop new perspectives on your topic. There are Weekly Objectives you will
complete which are supported by activities and related multimedia. Interacting with the e–learning
environment and using multimedia will enhance your knowledge of the objectives. As a result, you
will be...show more content...
In addition, the writing experience at the end of the course will help you with persuasive speaking in
front of an audience. To get you started, the activities and assignments will ease you into thinking
about the argument, and help you consider what direction your paper might take. This knowledge
will give you reasons to persuade your audience and to support your argument. In summation, you
will know how to define your topic, thesis/claim, and purpose of your

Outline And Objective Of A Persuasive Text
Semester A Unit 6 Lesson 5
Introduction and Objective
Putting together supporting evidence, reasons, and a claim in a persuasive text is a lot like building
a puzzle. Without the outside border, the inside pieces won't seem complete and without the inside
pieces, you have an empty picture. Evidence and reasoning are the two basic pieces of your
persuasive letter. Without these, you'll simply have a frame–your claim–without information to
complete the argument. Explaining how things connect for your reader is one of the most important
ways to strengthen your argument.
Today 's lesson objective is: Students will be able to develop an analysis using relevant evidence
from texts to support claims, opinions, ideas, and inferences.
When...show more content...
Now that you have a list of sources and have written down some basic evidence, you need to make
sure that you find information from those sources that relates to and supports your claim and your
reasons. One of the most basic ways to find information from your sources is to first look for
examples. Can you find an example of what you're trying to claim? Can you find an example of
your reason?
Let's take a look at an example using the "claim, reasons, and sources chart" from our previous
lesson.
Claim: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a great leader who demonstrated it through his writing,
speeches, and dedication to civil rights and peace. Reasons:
1.His letters were incredibly persuasive, including "Letter from Birmingham Jail."
2.His speeches were inspiring and heard by many during the civil rights movement.
3.Although he received many threats on his life, he kept leading and participating in nonviolent
protests for equality.
One of our pieces of evidence from the encyclopedia article was as follows: "'Letter from
Birmingham Jail' is addressed to several clergymen who had written an open letter criticizing the
actions of Dr. King and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) during their protests
in Birmingham."
This is a great summary, but you need to find specific quotes or statistics from the source itself to
include in your paper. For this example, we would need to find an

Well, the persuasive speech did not go the best for me. I was extremely nervous and I could not
snap out of it; which I'm sure was obvious in the video. On the bright side, though, my catch phrase
made it easier to grab the attention of my audience! It also helped that my persuasive speech outline
had good flow. My persuasive speech contained a lot of resourceful information that I hope made
people actually think about becoming an organ donor. I made sure to include multiple statistics so
that my audience would know how many people are actually awaiting organ and tissue donation.
Providing this information in my speech was resourceful to my audience as well as myself because
organ and tissue donation is not generally a topic that people think a lot about and therefore they

I have no idea why this speech made me so nervous. Due to the fact that I was extremely nervous,
my mind kept freezing up on me, so, therefore, I was referring to my note cards more than I
needed to be; which made the speech not flow as smoothly as I would have liked it to.
Furthermore, because I was referring to my note cards more, my eye contact was lacking. My eye
contact was the one thing in my speech that needed the most improvement. Also, my nonverbal
communication was good in the fact that I did not move my hands around a lot, but did have
quite a few nervous twitches. The nonverbal that were displayed in this persuasive speech were
better than the other two speeches, but I still need to work on a couple of things, such as, having a

Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience how to be more successful as a college student.
I.Introduction
A.Attention Getter: How many of you have said that there are too many options? Whether you
are talking about choosing a college, class selection once you get to college, or even something as
simple as choosing what to eat for dinner tonight. If you made a choice on what career field you
will enter after college, you come to find out that there are many a lot of choices for classes to
take. Or there may be too many prerequisites to take before you can begin your classes for your
choice of major. And if you are like me, you have no idea what you want to do and in this case,
there are more options than you can count. Today we are going to talk about the stressors that come
along with being a college student. Once we identify all the stressors or the most important and most
affective, we will then discuss how to reduce and omit them to help make your choices easier.

Generic Topic: Continuation of Gratuity
Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to support the continuation of tipping (in restaurants).
Introduction
I.Many times my family has gone out to restaurants, having nice experiences. Other visits not so
much. One outing in particular, my family and I ate out at an upscale French restaurant in Virginia.
The food was good. However, my dad left a small tip for the level of service provided by our snobby
waitress. Leaving the restaurant, we heard a "Sir! Excuse me, Sir." Our waitress hurried across the
parking lot in effort to catch up with us. She asked, "Did I do something wrong?" In which dad
replied, "No, you didn't do anything wrong, why?" She hastily replied, "The tip. The tip," upset with
the amount left.
II.As a recent employee in the restaurant industry, first as a hostess and later as a waitress, I have
had the opportunity to experience the system of tipping not just from a customer's point of view.
III.The majority of the population dines out at restaurants at one time or another facing the art of
tipping at some point in their life, unless they prefer fast food.
IV.The elimination of tipping would create chaos within the service industry for both customers and
servers
V.Today I will discuss the initial purposes of tipping and the customer's point of view as well as the
view of the servers on how the no tip policy would impact the service industry.

There are numerous benefits to giving blood. A. Soon after giving blood you will receive a copy of
your blood type, in case you do not know it, in the mail. B. It might also say "Congratulations for
donating you have just saved at least three lives!" 1. Some places give out a T–shirt or a gift card to
your favorite restaurant. 2. Also, you get to eat snacks that you may never eat otherwise. 3. Just
the satisfaction of knowing you just saved lives. C. Some of you might still have questions about
giving blood. 1. You might think "if I give blood will it hurt?" 2. You can not get hurt giving
blood. 3. You might think "Gosh, I am not sure I want to give my blood when I need it myself to
survive. 4. It only takes 24 hours to replace the red blood cell lost during donating. 5. They only use
sterile or disposable materials to take your blood and using these can prevent you or someone from
contracting diseases.
(Transition: Finally, you know the problem and solution so visualize this.....) IV. In conclusion,
there is a definite need for blood donation, as I have explained. Some one needs blood every 3
seconds in the U.S. The donation process is simple and harmless. It could save a life of someone

punishment are prohibitive. III. States with the death penalty have higher murder rates than those
without it.

Body:
I. The death penalty has no deterrent effect
A. People commit murders largely in the heat of passion, under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or
because they are mentally ill, giving little or no thought to the possible consequences of their acts.
1. Claims that each execution deters a certain number of murders have been thoroughly discredited
by social science research.
a. According to the economist's voice, the few that do commit pre–meditated murders will be more
affected with life in prison.
1. Being in prison for life is tough enough, life imprisonment breaks down one's mental health
which is more detrimental and serves more as a "payback" to the murderer. 2. Death row in essence
is the "easy way out" for these criminals.
B. The time it takes for a prisoner to be executed has doubled since 2002.
1. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, it now takes on average about 178 months (about 15
years) for an execution occurs.
2. If all this time wasn't wasted, $3 million could have been saved as opposed spending $5 million
to keep the prisoner on death row.
C. Unlike the general population of prisoners, those who await Death row remain in solitary
confinement. 1. Death row inmate lives in a constant uncertainty of when they will be executed
a. This isolation and anxiety results in a sharp deterioration of their physical and mental status.
II. The costs of administering capital punishment are prohibitive.

  • 3. Persuasive Essay On Online Classes Most people think highly of online classes; get to work from home, get to work on a flexible schedule, and anyone can do it. Though no one has heard the cons of taking one. I personally took three semesters of online classes in high school and had a horrible experience. Because of loose scheduling, poor communication, and the focus needed, online classes are not suitable for procrastinators. To give a better understanding, I will summarize my experience with the class. Me, being a procrastinator, thought to myself: I'll just work on the weekends and if I don't finish the class by the end of the school year, I can finish within the first few weeks of summer. This was a god awful plan. Unsurprisingly, close to nothing was accomplished on the weekends. Friends would ask me to hang out every weekend, and I did every time. Why would I want to work on my class on the weekend when I could be having fun? I would later regret this decision. On the days I stayed home and could have worked on the class, I completed nothing. On these days, I would tell myself: I'll just complete what I didn't do this weekend next weekend. This rarely happened. Thus, the cycle of getting nothing accomplished started. I disregarded my class for most of the first semester of junior year. With only nine assignments out of eighty finished after the first semester of the school year, I was immensely behind. I told myself to get my act together during second semester and grind out these two semesters Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. My Persuasive Speech Outline I think my persuasive speech went pretty well. I was a little nervous about going up to speak in front of the class; however, the nervousness went away as I was getting into my speech. I noticed, as I was speaking, I was swinging my body side to side a lot, I guess it was to kind of distract myself from being nervous. But I stopped doing it after I realized I might be distracting my audience. My speech was organized, I followed the format of the persuasive speech outline as prof. Igiel has provided. My main points were fully supported by reliable sources. I maintained eye contact and my posture was good. Also, I articulated words clearly. I did not pause effectively, but I don't think I rushed through my speech. My language was clear and appropriate. Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Outline Of Persuasive Speech On Procrastination Scott Alex Suddoth COMM 2381 Outline for Persuasive speech 11/18/2015 Procrastination I.Attention Getter: A famous author by the name of Wayne Dyer once said, "Procrastination is one of the most common and deadliest of diseases and its toll on success and happiness is incredibly heavy."(1) In todays society it seems as if procrastination has become a normal and acceptable thing to do. It is often joked about amongst schoolmates and co–workers around the world. Nothing seems to get done until it absolutely needs to get done, then everyone runs around getting things done quickly and often times inaccurately. The trouble with this mentality however is that some things will never get done because something will come up tomorrow or the next day and what you are putting off now gets pushed even further back. Today I will persuade you to stop this habit from continuing. I will be explaining the problems we face when dealing with procrastination as well as how to deal with it and actions you can take to prevent it in the future. Transition: It is in our human nature to procrastinate, some of us do it more than others but learning about this problem and understanding how it can effect you can be beneficial to everyone II.Need(the Problem): According to an article from Psychology Today, "20 percent of people chronically avoid difficult tasks and deliberately look for distractions" (2) and According to recent research "Procrastination has more than quadrupled in the last 30 Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 7. Outline And Objective Of A Persuasive Text Semester A Unit 6 Lesson 5 Introduction and Objective Putting together supporting evidence, reasons, and a claim in a persuasive text is a lot like building a puzzle. Without the outside border, the inside pieces won't seem complete and without the inside pieces, you have an empty picture. Evidence and reasoning are the two basic pieces of your persuasive letter. Without these, you'll simply have a frame–your claim–without information to complete the argument. Explaining how things connect for your reader is one of the most important ways to strengthen your argument. Today 's lesson objective is: Students will be able to develop an analysis using relevant evidence from texts to support claims, opinions, ideas, and inferences. When...show more content... Now that you have a list of sources and have written down some basic evidence, you need to make sure that you find information from those sources that relates to and supports your claim and your reasons. One of the most basic ways to find information from your sources is to first look for examples. Can you find an example of what you're trying to claim? Can you find an example of your reason? Let's take a look at an example using the "claim, reasons, and sources chart" from our previous lesson. Claim: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a great leader who demonstrated it through his writing, speeches, and dedication to civil rights and peace. Reasons: 1.His letters were incredibly persuasive, including "Letter from Birmingham Jail." 2.His speeches were inspiring and heard by many during the civil rights movement. 3.Although he received many threats on his life, he kept leading and participating in nonviolent protests for equality. One of our pieces of evidence from the encyclopedia article was as follows: "'Letter from Birmingham Jail' is addressed to several clergymen who had written an open letter criticizing the actions of Dr. King and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) during their protests in Birmingham." This is a great summary, but you need to find specific quotes or statistics from the source itself to include in your paper. For this example, we would need to find an

  • 9. Persuasive Speech Outline Well, the persuasive speech did not go the best for me. I was extremely nervous and I could not snap out of it; which I'm sure was obvious in the video. On the bright side, though, my catch phrase made it easier to grab the attention of my audience! It also helped that my persuasive speech outline had good flow. My persuasive speech contained a lot of resourceful information that I hope made people actually think about becoming an organ donor. I made sure to include multiple statistics so that my audience would know how many people are actually awaiting organ and tissue donation. Providing this information in my speech was resourceful to my audience as well as myself because organ and tissue donation is not generally a topic that people think a lot about and therefore they might not know the real importance of organ and tissue donation....show more content... I have no idea why this speech made me so nervous. Due to the fact that I was extremely nervous, my mind kept freezing up on me, so, therefore, I was referring to my note cards more than I needed to be; which made the speech not flow as smoothly as I would have liked it to. Furthermore, because I was referring to my note cards more, my eye contact was lacking. My eye contact was the one thing in my speech that needed the most improvement. Also, my nonverbal communication was good in the fact that I did not move my hands around a lot, but did have quite a few nervous twitches. The nonverbal that were displayed in this persuasive speech were better than the other two speeches, but I still need to work on a couple of things, such as, having a glass of water next to me so that I do not have to swallow so Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Outline Of A Persuasive Outline Essay Persuasive Outline Generic Topic: Continuation of Gratuity Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to support the continuation of tipping (in restaurants). Introduction I.Many times my family has gone out to restaurants, having nice experiences. Other visits not so much. One outing in particular, my family and I ate out at an upscale French restaurant in Virginia. The food was good. However, my dad left a small tip for the level of service provided by our snobby waitress. Leaving the restaurant, we heard a "Sir! Excuse me, Sir." Our waitress hurried across the parking lot in effort to catch up with us. She asked, "Did I do something wrong?" In which dad replied, "No, you didn't do anything wrong, why?" She hastily replied, "The tip. The tip," upset with the amount left. II.As a recent employee in the restaurant industry, first as a hostess and later as a waitress, I have had the opportunity to experience the system of tipping not just from a customer's point of view. III.The majority of the population dines out at restaurants at one time or another facing the art of tipping at some point in their life, unless they prefer fast food. IV.The elimination of tipping would create chaos within the service industry for both customers and servers V.Today I will discuss the initial purposes of tipping and the customer's point of view as well as the view of the servers on how the no tip policy would impact the service industry.
