1. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Who would be the audience for your media product?
How did you attract/address your audience?
My media product does not represent one social group in particular, but
instead is relatable for a wide range of young people. As the sixth form
has a variety of social groups within it, I wanted my magazine to appeal
to everyone. In order to do this, I looked at the data I found in my
research and planning in regards to what majority of people expect in a
magazine and furthermore tried to apply this when constructing my front
cover and contents page. For example, the majority of people chose that
they would prefer to see bright colours in a sixth form magazine, so in
order to do this but ensure it still suited everybody I chose to use a bright
cyan blue and a lighter shade of purple for my main colour scheme,
which stood out against the white background.
My target audience was primarily students of sixth form, aged between
16-19. In regards to my images, I decided to take a variety of shots with
people from different “groups” within the sixth form. I did this because I
felt it was important to show that everybody within the sixth form is
equal in regards to my magazine and that it was not aimed at one social
group in particular. This applies for my contents page too, as I wanted the
range of articles I would include in my magazine to have something that
everybody would be interested in reading, in order to reach the whole of
my target audience.
