Columbus Public Library e-Reader Lending Policy
1. E- READER LENDING POLICY
BORROWER CRITERIA:
To borrow an e-reader from the Columbus Public Library, the patron must have a current Columbus
Public Library card in good standing (per Privileges and Account Collection policy).
A patron who borrows an e-reader is required to complete a Borrower's Agreement and provide credit
card information, or a security check (written for the maximum cost of device and accessories, which
will not be deposited unless the item is not returned) and a valid photo ID. This information will be kept
in a secure location.
First time borrowers will receive training from Library staff prior to borrowing an e-reader.
CONTENT:
The Columbus Library has a collection of e-books loaded on each e-reader from which patrons may
choose.
CHECK OUT PROCEDURE:
E-readers may be reserved. When the e-reader becomes available we will notify the patron and hold it
for 7 days.
E-readers may be checked out for 3 weeks with one 3-week renewal.
RETURN PROCEDURE:
E-readers may not be returned in the book drop.
E-readers must be given to a staff member who will complete the check in procedure. They may not be
left at an unattended desk.
Readers and accessories will be checked for functionality and condition.
Fines and/or fees will be tabulated (if any) and security check or credit card information will be
returned.
OVERDUE FINES AND/OR FEES:
Overdue fines will be charged according to the Schedule of Fines and Fees up to a maximum of the cost
of the device and accessories reached at 30 days overdue.
The patron will be charged replacement fees for any items not returned in the e-reader kit, or for items
returned damaged. The Columbus Public Library reserves the right to replace the device with a
2. comparable item.
E-readers returned in the book drop will be subject to an additional fee of $25.00.
Patrons may not purchase and download titles onto the Library's e-reader. Any titles purchased will be
charged to the patron's account.
Items not returned within 30 days of due date will be charged to the patron’s credit card (with an
additional $5 fee) or their security check will be deposited. If payment is rejected, accounts not settled
within 30 days will be turned over to a collection agency.
The Columbus Public Library reserves the right to refuse this service to patrons who do not follow the
Borrower’s Agreement or are repeatedly late in returning devices.
