Susan Franklin, Public Services Librarian at Hastings College Perkins Library, will explain how "Game Night @ Perkins Library" went from a trial event to a much-anticipated and supported semester-ly event. We’ll cover what motivated us to experiment with game night; what equipment, supplies, PR and partners we started with and how we grew; how we planned and organized; what benefits game nights bring; and what our gaming future holds.

- It all says, GAME
- So successful so a first venture that several students who attended happened to be on a committee with our Dean of Students. They told him how much fun it was. I agreed and said the library was planning to make it a semesterly event and remarked that, ideally, we needed to figure own our own Wiis… He generously purchased, with remaining grant funds, 2 Wii gaming systems; 2 equipment bags; 4 additional wii remotes; and 3 wii games (Mario Party, Just Dance, and DJ Hero)
- Caramel bugles and homemade oyster crackers + a survey and tiny cookies
- Have to set ground rules, occasionally.
- BUT…they don’t listen.
- Just Dance is SUCH a hit that by the very second game night, it had devotees. I give to you two Just Dancers who arrive dressed for rhythmic success:

- Jenga
- Pirate bling, pirate photo op, me dressed as a pirate
- That’s when you whip out research and statistics and studies on how gaming promotes learning, creativity, intellectual pursuit, etc…and then you go challenge someone to a game of paper, scissors, rock!
