2. India – FDCI’s first ever Menswear show at the upcoming AIFW A/W2016
Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) is hosting a menswear fashion show at the Amazon India
Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2016 showcase, for the first time ever. The three young
designers who will showcase their collections for the first time, in a specially curated menswear
show are Antar-Agni by UjjawalDubey, Divyam Mehta and RohitKamra. They will present their
designs on the fourth day (19th March) of the AIFW A/W16 at 2pm, at the Jawaharlal Nehru
Stadium, Lodhi Road. The event will be held from March 16 -20, in the capital at a new venue.
Each designer will interpret themes in his own unique way. Antar Agni’s Autumn-Winter
collection titled “The Red in Us”, explores the varied emotions that red exudes. Red is extreme,
a stimulator, heavy, intense and a stirrer. The collection aims at the controlled use of oxidized
red as an extreme element, paired with fabrics with character, acting as a vent for the
persistent human neutral state.“Into the Woods”, a collection by Divyam Mehta, draws
inspiration from trees and textures bringing out a feeling of freedom, intensity and blissfulness,
harmoniously blending into laboriously executed Shibori patterns.Interestingly, RohitKamra’s
collection will redefine the royal look by modernizing it through sharply tailored bandhgalas
and breeches. “Made in Jaypore” will see a huge Jaypore influence seeping into the ensembles.
The Male Model auditions were held a few days ago, where 200 aspirants were judged by a
jury comprising designers RohitBal, VarunBahl, Divyam Mehta and ace choreographer
AnuAhuja.Models were evaluated on walk, fitness and attitude on the ramp. The 24 of the new
talent who were shortlisted will walk for this show. Sunil Sethi, President, FDCI said, “The three
hand-picked designers showcasing a menswear collection at the upcoming Amazon India
Fashion Week Autumn-Winter 2016 will add undiluted pizzazz to the event. This is a first for us,
as we felt it will give a 3D experience to the viewers. The shortlisted male models will also get
an opportunity to debut on the AIFWAW’16ramp through this valuable addition.”

4. India – Rajesh Pratap Singh opens Amazon India Fashion Week A/W, 2015
FDCI launched its latest edition of India Fashion Week Autumn-Winter, 2015
on 25th with Amazon as the new title sponsor. The very capable designer
Rajesh Pratap Singh opened the fashion week with a stunning collection,
truly representative of his signature style. With the setting of a hospital ward
on the runway, rows of iron-frame beds, glowing IV drip bags, the models all
showed great potential as actresses with their choreographed looney act of
denizens in a mental hospital, or perhaps health care givers cracking up.
Time less silhouettes, black and white, weaves and prints, wool, cotton,
leather, pleather, edgy, hot, cool – we love it.
Anju Modi’s fairytale inspired collection was an endearing success story that
the designer herself is. Layered, flowing apparel, fine embroideries, natural
fabrics and raw silk shades, tussar, turguoise, blood red. She has reason to
celebrate after this show.
Kindle, which is the Associate Sponsor of the event, was also the sponsor of
the closing show of the first day by designer JJ Vallaya. His penchant for
opulent stage sets was confined to a backdrop reminiscent of Russia with
large onion domes and a giant size babushka doll on the sliding entrance.
The theme of the Polish Bazaar had some distinguished looking gentlemen
for the men’s wear. Ushanka fur hats, fur scarves. Nice. The show closed
with a row of babushka’s holding up kindle tabs.
