Lesson
1:
Know,
Reckon,
Yield
Romans
6
Though
read
during
the
Water
Baptism
Service,
this
is
not
a
reference
to
water
baptism.
This
is
about
the
salvation
experience
and
water
Baptism
is
merely
the
expression
of
that
Salvation.
God’s
method
of
dealing
with
sin
• Sinners:
Justification
• Believers:
Identification
Up
to
chapter
6
Paul
does
not
discuss
Sanctification
and
from
this
point
on
does
not
discuss
Justification
of
a
Sinner.
They
are
contrasted
in
chapter
6.
Justification
• Sanctification
• An
act
• Work
• Means
• The
end
• Removes
guilt
and
penalty
of
sin
• Growth
and
power
over
sin
• Works
for
us
• Works
in
us
• Declares
us
righteous
• Makes
us
righteous
• Furnishes
the
track
to
heaven
• Furnishes
the
train
to
heaven
Rom

–
Three
states
(vs.
22)
• Non
Posse,
non
Pecare
:
Not
able
not
to
sin
before
Salvation.
• Posse
non
Pecare
:
Able
not
to
sin,
after
Salvation.
Power
to
live
victoriously.
• Non
Posse,
Pecare
:
Not
able
to
sin,
after
rapture.
Baptism
and
its
meaning
(Vs
3)
• Buried:
Baptism
is
identification.
Not
just
for
me
but
as
me.
• Raised:
Baptism
is
an
accomplishment.
Resurrection
for
the
glory
of
the
Father.
At
the
death
of
a
criminal
the
charges
are
dropped.
Burial
of
Jesus
is
part
of
the
Gospel,
and
so
is
resurrection
and
ascension.
Likewise,
we
are
not
just
dead,
but
buried
and
raised
up
anew,
awaiting
for
the
glorification.
Equating
baptism
to
burial
requires
immersion.
Quasi
burial;
an
identification
with
the
death
of
Lord
Jesus
Christ.
The
purpose
of
the
link
to
resurrection
is
that
our
lives
ought
to
be
changed.

The
Identification.
Rom
6:3
• 14
things
that
Paul
bears
on
our
mind
that
we
now
know
because
of
Salvation
in
Christ.
• Christ
giving
Himself
for
us.
• We
cannot
die
for
our
sins,
but
we
can
die
to
sin.
Phil

Reckon
Ye:
The
Impartation.
Rom
6:11
• Count

an
active,

The
Implication
Rom
6:13
• Christ

now

and
so
serve
Him.

Present

Sacrifice
is
being
dead,
dead
to
sin
but
alive
to
God.

Baptism
of
the
Holy
Spirit
Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now
if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
1 Cor 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether [we be] Jews or Gentiles,
whether [we be] bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
The
Baptism
of
the
Holy
Spirit
happens
the
moment
you
are
saved.
You
cannot
have
any
personal
relationship
without
the
Holy
Spirit.
The
Second
Blessing
or
the
Second
Work
of
Grace,
which
teaches
the
complete
present
Sanctification
or
the
“equipping”
of
the
Saint
for
the
work
of
the
Lord
at
a
later
date
is
not
Biblical.
Ephesians
4:8,
gifts
were
received
on
the
day
we
entered
the
Kingdom
of
God.
The
idea
of
the
gap
between
Salvation
and
Baptism
of
the
Holy
Spirit
comes
from
four
narrations
in
Acts.
1. Acts
2.
Day
of
Pentecost.
Jews
in
Jerusalem.
• They
were
Christ
followers
and
it
fell
on
each
of
them
without
exclusion.
• Num
11:29.
Moses’
prayer
was
that
each
of
them
would
receive
the
Spirit.
• Tongues
of
fire
marked
visually
that
all
received
the
Spirit.
• Joel
prophecies
and
Peter
confirms
that
this
happened
on
the
day
of
Pentecost.
• Day
of
Pentecost
marks
the
day
of
God’s
outpouring
of
the
Holy
Spirit
on
His
people.
2. Acts
8:5;
14-‐17.
Samaria.
• They
received
the
Word
first,
and
Holy
Spirit
was
received
later
by
the
laying
of
hands.
• The
Holy
Spirit
was
poured
on
all
of
the
Saints.
3. Acts
10.
God
Fearers.
Gentiles
who
believed
in
Jehovah.
• Vs.
44.
“all
those”.
It
fell
on
all.
• Gift
on
the
God
fearing
gentiles.
These
were
Proselytes
who
believed
on
God.
• Resulted
in
water
baptism,
and
received
as
full
members
of
the
community
of
Church.
4. Acts
19.
Gentiles
in
Ephesus.
Four
accounts
of
Pentecostal
outpouring.
• All
believers
received
• Records
four
distinct
groups
of
people
–
Jews-‐Samarians-‐
God
fearers
–
Gentiles.
• Luke
is
tracking
the
natural
progression
of
the
Gospel
–
Jerusalem-‐Judea-‐
Samaria-‐Uttermost
parts
of
the
earth.
• Each
people
group
is
touched
and
God
certifies
their
privilege
and
membership
with
the
body
of
Christ.
Let
us
not
hold
too
low
a
view
of
the
Pentecost
and
make
Salvation
an
emotional
issue.
While
emotions
are
reflective
of
the
shallowest
part
of
the
mind;
Salvation
really
is
at
the
deepest
level.
