1. Training MPs on human rights and gender, UN treating ratification and
domestication of treaties. (Advocacy – want the MPs to take action in
range of areas)
2. Mobilising women's’ groups to demand local council allocate land to a
build Safe House. (Advocacy – many role-players involved and many
strategies will be needed to secure the land)
3. Presentation to Cabinet on VAW and resources needed to effectively
respond to VAW. (Lobbying – targeting Cabinet to allocate resources)
4. Consultations with church leaders to speak out about VAW. (Lobbying)
5. Training teachers to teach life-skills curriculum (Advocacy – this is one
activity in a broader campaign to prevent teenage pregnancy, alcohol
abuse, violence against girls)

PACIFIC-STYLE LOBBYING
• Who are most important targets – not always government.
• Use local research/govt. research.
• Use influentials- Royal family, PM and cardinals.
• Remember that peers influence peers.
• Use the language/terminology of the Pacific.
• Use family and village, home island ties.
• Be creative - use social opportunities e.g. at the kava bowl
with PDF and KI President
• Formal and informal courtesy visits
• Testimonials /emotions/ authentic voice
• Use existing platforms.
