Let me give it to you straight: Bethenny Frankel is a Brand Fuggin-
Motha Genius.
She is absolutely one of the CEO boss-women that I admire. Her ability
to leverage the platforms that she was on, her ability to be honest no
matter what built her know-like-and-trust factor with millions like not
much other people have done.
Her ability to leverage reality TV is a beast. She’s been on The
Apprentice, reality TV show Real Housewives of New York City, she has
a book (which is a bestseller) – she is a Beast. Here are some things that
we can take away from Bethenny Frankel into our own brand:
1. She starts where she is – Start somewhere! A lot of my clients come to
me and say they don’t want to start taping Youtube videos because
they only have their iPhones to tape – they don’t have fancy
equipment, they don’t have lighting, they don’t have a backdrop.
Bethenny Frankel went to culinary school and then she worked in a
restaurant, then when that restaurant closed up, and from that failure,
she started a cooking business. From the cooking business, she wanted
to get into a wider audience, so she got into The Apprentice show.
2. Being in the top, she leveraged her exposure to a wider audience
base and starred in a couple more shows like the Real Housewives of
New York City – this is something not most of us can do, as reality TV
might show some of our weaknesses, but she used reality TV to reach
out and expose her brand to a wider audience base.

3. She is not afraid to say what she means – she actually admitted that
she was broke. And what did that do to her brand? It soared. The
audience were attached to her brutal honesty – and the people loved
it.
4. She partnered with a company called Beam Global for her Skinny
Girl brand but she kept the name Skinny Girl. Not only did she
leveraged the marketing dollar advantage of Beam Global, she was
able to launch other products under the Skinny Girl brand, because
the brand equity is now strong. She leveraged the Skinny Girl name, so
now you see Skinny Girl popcorn, Skinny Girl shapeware – all different
products aligned with the Skinny Girl brand.
So the big lessons we get from Bethenny Frankel is to stay true to your
brand.
You have to own your brand story, your brand messaging. Own who
you are.
Stay flexible and be honest with your audience and they will fall in love
with you.
