Our target audience was individuals aged 12 and above who enjoy sci-fi films. We received positive feedback from audience members we interviewed that confirmed we had selected an appropriate age range. To appeal to our young adult audience, our two main characters were teenagers portrayed as a serious young couple. We also gathered input from a questionnaire on how each character should be presented. The bedroom setting looked unpretentiously homely with personal touches like a photo of the characters. Viewers provided feedback that the locations looked realistic and fit well with the story. Most viewers correctly identified the genre as sci-fi based on props like a photo frame falling from an alien-caused shake and the actual appearance of an alien.
1. How did you attract/address your
audience?
Question 5
2. I think that our decision to target individuals at the age of 12 and above means that we have a
mass of audience’ at the age of 12 and above who are fans of sci fi films and enjoy them, this film is
also for both males and females . We have proven that we have reach our target audience with the
feed back that we have got from audience feedback 4/4 who we interviewed said that they agreed
and thought it was an appropriate age, therefore we knew we had made a good choice and stuck
by it.
What did you include when planning your production
that you thought would appeal to your audience?
3. What did you include when planning your production that you thought would appeal to
your audience?
Due to the fact that our target audience is young adults mostly, we thought it
would be best that our two main characters would be teenagers playing a young
serious couple, I think this factor of love interest made majority of the audience
feel like they can relate. We also asked via questionnaire how they think each
character should be presented in the film, this help me in particular because
costumes and props are a way that characters are represented and I had the task
of costume and props.
4. Setting up our location was really successful during production, I tried to make the whole
bedroom look unpretentiously homely, by adding a picture of the two characters, also I moved
certain furniture around so that the bedroom would look like a stereotypical couples room. We
feel like we have been successful in location and the look of our locations, we had some positive
feedback from viewers, they mentioned that the locations looked very realistic and it fitted with
what was going.
Another success that I think that we had, was Genre; we conveyed genre in our film very well,
when we asked the audience what they thought our genre was, more than majority say said Sci
Fi. I think that the audience got this ideology from every aspect of our film. Our props such as the
photo frame, this made the room more personal to the characters, also the alarm clock falling
down due to a sudden shake shows that there is something supernatural happening. Also when
the alien is seen, there is a massive indication that our film is sci fi.
What has been successful in your production?
5. What was Less successful?
The public that we asked found it hard to get into the story or relate to it. They also felt like the female
character could have done more and not made the male character as superior. We could improve by making
sure that our films in future are meeting the audience needs and also involving the female without the role of
the male over taking it.
