Dear Judges:
My name is Nicole Torralba. Since I was young, I have always had a passion for
medicine. I revel in the sciences and I greatly enjoy helping others. I am an avid
supporter of organizations that endeavor to find cures for diseases. For my Senior Project,
I organized and spearheaded a Muscular Dystrophy Walk-a-thon. This allowed me to
raise money for those in need and lend a helping hand to individuals in my community.
My product was the Muscular Dystrophy Walk-a-thon. Through generous donations and
the success of the event, I was able to raise $2,400 for the research for the cure of
Muscular Dystrophy. Through my research, I was able to have a better understanding of
what Muscular Dystrophy really is. I was more aware of what individuals encounter on a
daily basis and it inspired me to make my event as successful as possible. One of the
biggest obstacles that I had to overcome to achieve my product was to change the
location of my Walk-a-thon. Due to inclement weather conditions, I was forced to move
my Walk-a-thon from the track to the high school cafeteria. Regardless of this change, I
managed to still raise a sufficient amount of money to help further the cause of the
Muscular Dystrophy.
I plan to attend the University of Georgia in the fall where I am going to major in pre-
pharmacy on the track to becoming a doctor. The senior project made me realize that I
want to continue pursuing a profession in the medical field. It has opened my eyes to the
world around me and has made me appreciate the many blessings in my life. I want to
serve as an inspiration for others and save lives and by being a doctor, I will be able to
make an impact in the world. I learned so much about myself throughout this whole
process, but mainly I learned that I have a chance to make a difference in the world.
Overall, I thought the senior project had its positives and negatives. What I disliked about
the project was that it was very stressful at times. Achieving my final product took a lot
of planning and time. Although the project was very arduous, I still found it to be an
enriching experience. I learned a lot about my work ethic and it helped solidify my future
plans. I believe that this project was very beneficial because not only did I learn a lot
about myself from it, but I was able to contribute to my community and help those in
need. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to judge my
presentation and I appreciate your interest in my project.
