a.) If r sub xy for a given experimental study is 0.75, how would you characterize the correlation
between the variables x and y?
b.) What is the difference between “r sub xy = +1.00” and “r sub xy = -1.00”? Is one “better”
than the other?
Thank you!! :)
Solution
a) The linear relationship is moderately strong since values closer to |1| indicate a stronger linear
relationship. A value of 0 indicates no linear relationship. a value of 1 indicates a perfect linear
relationship.
b) The difference between the two is that the positive r has a positive relation. meaning that as X
increases, Y increases as well.
A negative r indicates a negative relationship. meaning, as X increases, Y decreases.
Neither is better.
